Something reminded me recently of a fad from the 90s called Geek Code (oddly, I think it was a recent discussion over the pros and cons of the NC700). I wonder if we could come up with one for bikers, or is there one already?
My boss at work, for example, can't comprehend why anyone would purchase a motorcycle that isn't the most powerful available at the time -- if it can't do 200mph, it's not a motorcycle. I, on the other hand, can't understand why anyone would want a bike that can easily lead to a loss of license in first gear or lift the front wheel in third. Another example: I have zero interest in motorsports, of any kind, while others got into bikes mostly for track days and MotoGP.
Obviously, we're riding our "biker's code." We don't need random letters and symbols when sitting on cruiser or GSXR. But there are other aspects that aren't so easy to tell by just looking at the bike or rider. Some possible examples:
M: ability to do one's own maintenance, ranging from knowing how to check oil levels (--) through to building an engine with nothing more than iron ore and a smelter (++++++++).
L: Supports or disapproves of road rules, speed cameras, etc. Might range from currently sitting magistrate (++++) to anarchist (-----).
S: interest in motor sport, track days, getting the knee down. Mine might be: S--, while my boss would have S+++.
R: Attitude toward risk -- wears t-shirt, shorts and sandels on Fireblade (++++). Dressed head-to-toe in day-glow orange, with an airbag waistcoat, strung with LEDs (----).
E: experience, measured by some formula of years + miles.
What other categories/factors are there that aren't immediately obvious by looking at the person's current set of wheels? ____________________ Current: '14 VFR800X Test passed 31/10/12.

OK, then. I see I've struck a nerve (the WTF nerve).
Let's put this down as one of my more, um, unsuccessful ideas. I've had a few... ____________________ Current: '14 VFR800X Test passed 31/10/12.
