Now I have a bigger bike im riding at faster speeds. Im finding my Nitro helmet noisy so wondering if any helmet brands have a good reputation for low noise, or any particuler models. Cheers.

My Shoei Neotech is unbelievably quiet compared to my Nitro, HTC and Caberg helmets.

I only have 2 to compare.
The Shoei Qwest Airfoil which I think is pretty good and the Shoei Raid 2 which is noticeably quieter and makes number 10 on that list. Thumbs Up
Having said that, I'm a big fan of earplugs, so...

I doubt that you'll be able to find a specific quiet lid because it depends on the shape of your head, the shape of your bike, how you sit on the bike, what angle the lid sits on your head etc.

The MCN test might be a good way to start, but even the quietest lids need ear plugs.

Coming from a HJC middle of the range £150 to a AGV K3.

I actually couldn't not believe just how much quieter the K3 was. Anything over 50mph and I couldn't hear myself talk but with the K3 up until 80 there's not much wind noise at all.

Traditionally/historically Schuberth have produced the quietest helmets and have made great play marketing/advertising that fact.

This appears to be the case as they are the top 4 in Sako's MCN quiet helmet link.

However, they are expensive. If you like the idea though Schuberth helmets are re-badged by BMW and depending on the end of season etc. deals can be cheaper.

Word of warning about Schuberth though. Try before you buy. I didn't have the right shaped head for one of the flip-up models I was interested in a while back (think they have a newer model so will have to retry).

HTH Thumbs Up

Just looked on sportsbikeshop and they have K3's on sale they also have the K4 which appears to be the same but fibreglass. I'm also going to get earplugs anyway, I'm getting deaf enough as I head into my dotage.

Has your bike got a screen?

Try riding and standing up on the pegs or ducking down below the screen..

If it gets quieter then the issue is not the helmet. Its how the screen is deflecting the wind.

My carbon Bell M4R is by far the quietest helmet I've had.

I have a HTC and a caberg as well they are both loud in comparison. The shoei I used before was also louder. I personally find the Bell to be far more comfortable and well built too tbh. Not cheap though

If you stick in earplugs, it's all relative. The more ventilation you have, the louder your lid is! Similarly, if your bike has a touring fairing, most of the windblast will be deflected OVER your head, so will result in a less noisy lid.

Saying that, I've found my Arai race lids (Corsair and RX-GP) to be a lot quieter than the shoeis, purely from the point of view of how the helmet shape is. I get a lot less buffeting behind the head due to turbulent air.

Slightly disagree, my Duchinni is so noisey at anything above 30 even with ear plugs in it makes long journeys a chore and a half! Compared with my cheap V Cans I just cant do long journeys with the Duchinni anymore. I have a 400 mile trip this weekend and I am more bothered about the wind noise annoying me than I am the on-coming thunderstorms we are meant to have Saturday.

The odd thing is I put my hand up to open the visor today and realised the worst noise stopped when my hand was at the side of my lid. I experimented and found that its just the side of my helmet by the back of my jaw where the noise comes from, my hand was spoilng this noisy airflow. This has got me thinking about trying to fit something to the helmet to do just this. All it needs is a little spoiler.

Fettling times ahead Smile

I recently bought a Nexx Xr1r helmet, and compared to my HJC IS-16, its practically silent! Whenever i put the HJC back on its roaring in my ears Shocked

It's definitley all about strange wind flows, there is a little noise with the Nexx, but if i put my hand anywhere on the front of the helmet, its goes deathly silent...

Thats why sometimes screens for some people work brilliantly, while others its terrible.

I also get a strange problem when wearing my HJC, with a pillion on the back, my head gets buffeted side to side quite annoyingly, i'm guessing as something is creating a slight vaccum.

But with the Nexx it seems to cut through the air so much better and eliminates this Very Happy

My HJC IS13 is noisy on my explorer and quiet on the Trophy. My Shark is the complete opposite so as said, what's good for one isn't true for another.

One thing I have to mention is the one and only expensive Arai I bought was one of the worst helmets I have ever had for noise.
