Mate that's a steal.
Come down where I went and you get quoted around £250 for a simple oil/filter change, spark plug change and air filter change |

#1 You haven't listed it. Don't mistake "Yeah mate, yeah, no worries, we'll look at that" with what a mechanic will actually do.
#2 That's 2 hours of labour, which in practice means less than that. Don't expect miracles. Resetting the CCT shouldn't be a long job, but neither is it one that you want rushed by some trainee.
Thinking about it, a blanket assurance that they'll sort out an undiagnosed rattle as part of a basic service is, well, bullshit. You want someone who will tell you honestly that they'll have to diagnose it first and then quote you for sorting it out. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Replace oil & filter - £30
Check fuel lines - 5 minutes
Check throttle operation - twist it.
Check idle speed - idles about 1300rpm when warm? Leave it.
Check cooling system - XJ is oil cooled, is it leaking oil, nope, done.
Check chain wear and adjustment - simple, read the haynes.
Check brake fluid and top up - check sight glass.
Check clutch fluid and top up - Thats your oil....
Check brake pad wear - Have a look, 10 seconds.
Check brake system - Do they work? Work well?
Remove and clean brake calipers - Probably an hour or so.
Check light operation - Come on, can you not check lights?
Check tyres for depth & condition - Have a look, again.
Check wheel bearings - Get friend to hold bike, wiggle front wheel and back wheel.
Check suspension - bounce on rear, front brake and squish front forks. Any leaks or odd behaviour?
Check bodywork condition - In a service, really?
Road test - Paying for a jolly on your bike lol
Replace spark plugs - 10 minutes max, £20
Replace air filter - £10
Top to tail nut, bolt & fasteners check - Grab a socket and make sure they are all there and tight.
For £84+ price of parts. |
Obviously, they will find faults, its like Dyson's service, £30 for a full service, but you know full well they will point out some dangerous failure points, "wear and tear mate" etc...
Would rather do all of that myself. |

The last time i took it in, he said he would sort it when i book a service, i have sent a lot of business his way with Chinese bikes.
I'm dropping the bike off at 9am and picking it back up at 1pm, if he sends all the time on it who knows. ____________________ My opinion is neither copyrighted nor trademarked. If you like, I'll trade for one of yours.

Managed to get a pair of seized, completely rounded-out screws out in under ten minutes using a dremel to cut new faces and an impact thingy.
The cover now reads that my bike takes DOT O 3 BRAKE FLUID O now though. ____________________ 2007 BMW R1200R: On road

VT500 - unscrew cover change filter, screw back cover - about 2 to 3 minutes
GPX750 - seat off, tank off, change filter, put all back, about 5 minutes
VF750 - unscrew covers, unscrew filters, change, and screw back in - about 5 minutes, maybe slightly more as there's two of them I can take the fuel tank all 4 of my bikes in less than 2 minutes. The only way it would take longer is if there's a problem with getting the fuel hose off. Why does it take you longer? Not taking the piss, honestly confused.
