Last time someone sent me an email across they just sent their email over about 4 messages.

If their fees were less extortionate I'd care less about it.

I've sold 2 vehicles on there now and I've only paid the listing fees. Sod paying listing fees... item fees and paypal feels...

There is another way...

Once the deal is done, just agree with the buyer to 'cancel the transaction' through eBay. Thus, you can still leave feedback but the seller gets their fees back.

I do this on any auction over £50. Which equates to perhaps 20 or so this year already. As soon as they close that loophole, I stop using eBay. Laughing

And why would a buyer agree to cancel a transaction and leave himself without any comeback if the seller turns out to be a cock? Confused

eBay just keeps getting worse.

I only sell stuff that has to be picked up and paid in cash.

Buying from businesses on there is fine but for the average person selling, it is expensive and you can get ripped off easily.

Make sure you get signed for postage and ideally photos of the item pre-dispatch.

Don't ask me, ask all the people that agree to it. Laughing

Once they've received the item (exhaust, set of levers, a bike perhaps) I'll just initiate a cancellation of the item and not one of them has disagreed. If it's a bike that I've sold via eBay, I'll just ask them face-face if it's cool if we cancel the transaction. I would agree to it if I was the buyer... full well in the knowledge that if the seller was indeed a cock and sold me something that was misadvertised, well... I'd know where they lived... Laughing

Nearly entirely stopped using ebay the past year for similar reasons. I've got an old pay as you go phone i rarely use which i used to just post the number of on the ad's and tell people to contact me via phone/text if they wanted me to avoid the buggering about with ebay messaging/filtering.

After factoring postage cost, fee's, chance of hassle and shit from buyer etc its barely ever worth flogging anything on there now days I find. For bike and car bits i've resorted to just going on specific-vehicle forums and trying to flog them there mostly Laughing

I'll only use ebay for classified ads now.

I'll still buy, but it's usually from traders. I can't remember when I last bought an auction item from there.

I use e-bay and haven't really had any issues, perhaps something hasn't been as mint as I would consider mint to be, but I haven't had anything really bad. I have only ever bought from e-bay though.

You get charged to end listings now aswell, so once you've made a deal via ebay messages and go to close your listing they charge you (if you do it more than once per calendar month) crafty buggers.

I can't find anything that confirms this?

List an item and try to end it, you get a warning explaining about fee avoidance and that if you end more than 1 item in a calendar month the rest of the items you end are subject to an 'end listing early' fee! I had an offer on some items yesterday and ended 3 auctions! I haven't checked how much I've had to pay yet.

I'd rather just hand my wallet to pikeys than sell anything on eBay.

Thanks, guess this is the end to my selling on ebay. I wouldn't end the auction if the fees were not extortionate.

Can you work around by shill bidding a stupid amount and then agree to cancel the sale?

I've had all the above techniques (at the top) stopped.

I had one message where I think I used the word email and said replace the at with a plus symbol (they wanted to send me their email).

It stopped that, but let it through when I spelt it att.

I used to use ebay a lot. Used to regularly list cash only on collection for tastier items, and refuse all pleadings and moans about couriers and Billpoint (in days of yore before paypal), and do all right, but they kept moving the goalposts, to the point where it was almost impossible to list most items as cash only on collection.

Best ever score was some wargaming stuff, sold loads of it, one lot I paid £80 for in a real world auction and sold for £1,550.00 Cool

but the rot started to set in when they introduced the shops, oh and also templates, you needed to know just a basic bit of HTML once, the riff raff spoiled it too.

but all in all, I made a few quid back in the day Very Happy
