Looking at those pictures , I`d say there`s life in that bike yet.
I used to play Motoball and our bikes would be in a lot worse state than that before we got rid of them.
Even if it cant go on the road again , it might have some life left in it as an off-roader?
Looks like you need to spend some time at a bike auto-jumble
DT 175`s are/were great little bikes and are getting few and far between nowdays.
It would be a crying shame for it to be scrapped ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

Carb looks to be mikuni.
Similar to alot of 80's Suzuki 2strokes. What diameter are the openings?
Rebuild the engine anyway. 2strokes dont take much work to run as there are barely any internal components compared to a 4stroke. But trying to make it go in that state may make your job harder... ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

If it was mine , every orifice would get a really good dollop of diesel .
And a daily wiggle of anything that was supposed to move for a week or two before trying to get anything off it.
If it was mine it would get a great dollop of diesel in the exhaust port.
I would worry about seeing if you can get things moving first.
I once had a Bultaco Sherpa in the same condition as that and I was able to get it going as a tatty bus
It had stood for 7years before I got it and the exhaust was off.
I did the diesel trick and luckily for me it did free up and I was able to get it going.
EDIT : What? aren't all bikes supposed to look like that when the likes of us get to ride em?? ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

good idea about the diesel, i have a readily supply of kerosene, could i use that?
im thinking of just filling the container the engine currently live in with diesel/ kerosene for a few weeks - or is that ridiculous
obviously i wont be trying to start it covered in diesel/ kerosene!!
quite a few parts have appeared on gay-bay recently for DT's
fingers crossed i can start to rebuild the wee beasty
openings on the carb are 3cm & 4cm is that a common carb?
there are spanking new ones in the good ol US of A for £50 odd.
id quite like to use as much as the original stuff as possible.
i stripped the foot pegs off the frame this weekend, the return springs have corroded into the pegs!! |

| stevo as b4 wrote: | The DT shares no real engine design similarities with the RXS100, other than the layout, but it is very closely related to the TY175 trials engine, and the IT175 enduro. bike. The early YZ125's have the same shape engine casings too, and the design is similar across the DT100-DT400 engine range.
A very good air cooled steel linered motor with cylinder mounted reedvalve or (torque induction).
IT175 top end and carb, exhaust parts can be fitted to the DT175 cases, and I think the IT was about 24bhp? The TY engine appears to be the same but with a different non radial head and a 2mm smaller carb, along with of course a different exhaust system. |
Clearly what I read was crap then I'm sure I've seen talk of getting the 175 top end to fit the RXS bottom or something...I'll google around. ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed
