https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xwEIBZlqmc

This been posted before, just thought I would throw it what happened.
I was doing 60 in a 70mph so under the limit. At first I beleive the truck on the right to be overtaking which would have meant moving traffic. At the first "shit" I am braking harder than a mother f_cker. But bike just slid. You can all see I had enough distance to stop. I would not say shit at all if I was planning to filter would I? Shit is the reaction of someone in trouble not someone deliberate. Think about it, of course I am braking and as you all can see I should have stopped. I just couldn't. I couldn't go left as bike was practically side on as I hit. Was just so lucky to find the middle and not the back or under the wheels.

Still haters gonna hate right?

anyone who'd think you were attempting to filter would be retarded. <-- most of the commenters on yootoob then.

a little more observation required in future though eh.

Well, as you say it's actually you... I only contibuted on PH to say Bandit brakes are shite; further thoughts if I'm talking to the rider rather than random internet people (note, not claiming perfect abilities myself by any stretch, just trying to see what I would try and get out of it if I'd have done the same)

- the longer version of that vid shows you weaving in and out of traffic before the crash like a god/dick. So you're always going to end up with a negative view of your riding from those who frown upon that sort of thing (which would include the police and courts...)

- Bandit brakes are shite; chances are after a sustained run at speed (not necessarily speeding as such, 50/60 is plenty to do this) the pads were knocked back in the calipers and the first grab doesn't work at all well - pumping them a little may well have produced a lot more braking force.

- target fixation: on the whole, it looks like there was probably enough space to get through there if you'd have kept your focus on the space rather than the lorry/ies. Takes practice to get the hang of, not sure I'd trust mine under those circumstances!

- poor long distance obs. I'd be tempted to say too busy with the next car on your weaving list rather than with the bigger picture. (Again: note: not that I'm perfect! This is my own experience talking...)

- any landing you walk away from is a good one Smile

The important thing in all riding/driving is to accept you made a mistake (or could have dealt with a given situation better) - it's no big deal, EVERYBODY makes them - and learn as much as possible from it for the future.

Wow. Well done for owning up. However, there was over four seconds in that video where you could clearly see the lorries getting closer before you said the first 'shit' and appeared to begin braking. Weren't you looking at the road?

I said the first shit 4 seconds in and shit is the response because I was already braking by then but nothing (well not enough) was happening, hence the use of the word shit.

If that's the case, then it's because you just grabbed too much brake. As I imagine you are now well aware, you want to slow the rotation of the wheels, not lock them.
Still, live and learn. Try to keep the learning out of the public eye, though - it has a habit of making people think you're a spaz.

Hey. So you live ( luckily) and learn.

Funny to watch but could have been a much worse outcome.

Glad that only your pride (and bike) got hurt.

Your 15 minutes of fame. Forget about it!!!
It won't be long before you look back at the video and laugh yourself.

Stay safe(r) in future Wink

You know how difficult it is to stop a bike going at those speeds.

150kph - so should be 5 or 6 seconds to a dead stop.

The fact that he was very close to stopping anyway when he goes between the two shows that he only needed to have braked a little harder or earlier to be fine.

Funny looking Hayabusa, with half a fairing and Bandit written on it.

Seen that video in a few places, o how I laughed.

Please expand more on this. Personally only ever had the pads knocked back a handful of times, from ridiculously aggressive tank slappers.

Certainly not from riding around and 50 and 60?

Well, I'm guessing that's what's happening. I do know that the first handful of brake from a run at reasonable speed on my Bandit often doesn't seem to slow you as much as it should; letting off and reapplying brings things immediately back to normal.

I think it's unlikely to be air in the system or it would happen all the time and not come back so well, unlikely to be cool discs as otherwise leaving the pressure on would build the braking force more quickly. It could be something going on with the ABS but on the whole, it just feels like the first pump moves the pads onto the disc a bit, but the second pump really grips them.

It's not a massive thing, just you're aware of not getting 100% and feels a bit like that video looks - slowing, but not quite as much as you expect.

Or Bandit brakes are just shite Laughing

I shouldn't laugh, but I can emphasize with how you must have felt so much! 'shit.... Shit.... SHIT..... SHIIIIITTT!!!' Laughing

We've all had very similar moments while out on our bikes I'd guarantee, be it due to poor obs, not enough forward planning, being pulled out on or whatever, you just ran out of luck on that occasion! Important thing is you and everyone involved were fine which means we can laugh about it now Smile
