Yeah i managed to change my mod 2 from erith to mitcham test centre, but as a result i will have to wait until the 29th before i can take my test. I decided to do this as i spent a day in erith and i made a few mistakes on the 50mph roads which would get me a fail in normal test conditions. This was probably down to me only having riding exp in central london.

So speaking of mitchams dsa test centre would it be smart if i followed instructors/ examiners leaving the centre with their learner riders, so i can learn the popular routes, or is this a deffo NO no?

If you can ride safely you should be fine just turning up and taking the test...

i can but.. the way i see it is at erith theres more room for mistake whereas in mitcham at around 9am were it will be pretty congested i can just play it cool follow slow moving traffic, wait at lights with long queues, no overtaking... etc

I think you may be overthinking things slightly. Just treat it as a normal ride, when I did my Mod 2 it was on a mix of roads that I knew and roads that I didn't. Just deal with each junction, hazard or situation as you come to it. If you've got into the habit of doing lifesavers, indicating and observations you'll be fine.

The examiner is looking for you to ride safely whilst making progress, using the information around you (i.e. weather, road conditions, traffic etc) to influence your decisions.

Hope it goes well Thumbs Up

Seems like a stupidly boring test!

Mine was brilliant, the examiner took me out through the country lanes Smile

I didn't have a clue where I was for 90% of my test. Just listen to the "Sat Nav" voice in your ear and don't ride like a mental case. Thumbs Up

It isn't hard to read road signs and use common sense.

That is all the test is for.

I passed my CBT in 2007, rode around for a bit then was released into the wild.

I learnt most of my road knowledge from using the road. Common sense mainly.

Just do that, use your head...stop over thinking like most people do before their tests. Roads are not that hard. I rode to a completely different part of the country the other day... using just road signs I pretty much made it to where I needed to be, and I wasn't being guided. I read road signs.

Just chill, ride to the test centre to see how long it will take you to get there, then add 20 minutes on your test day. That is all the riding you'll need to do unless you know the test routes.

If there is traffic you'll probably get the more intricate routes... I did. They took me down roads I wouldn't have ever considered riding down.

That's where I passed yesterday. Only thing to watch out for, immediately left out of the test centre is a 40mph, immediately right is a 30mph. Depends on the day, my first attempt at 9am took me in every back street coming right out of the test centre, I failed because there were a few streets with cars double parked and they were quite narrow. Make sure you keep the metre and a half REGARDLESS, except where it is unsafe to do so (car coming towards you), If unable to do this, slow down and/or stop. This was what the examiner (Sean big guy with a BMW F800) told me that day.

Yesterday at lunch was different, nice little jaunt past Ikea and others, here is my route plan (left my phone in my top box with Google My Tracks running Smile).

I always wondered if you should break the door width rule if there wasn't any space to meet and greet oncoming traffic.. thx for the map as well :DDDD

Surely you'd have been better off just leaving it booked in at Erith and spending another day over there on your tod getting it right. Now you've got a whole new test area to worry about.

i live 10 minutes away from the test area... they use most of the main roads i use to go college (e.g A23), i found this out after visiting mitcham dsa test centre today after following that route 'wotsthestory' posted above also some massive bloke on a bmw let me follow his learner riders after i asked politely.

Must be very close to me then, I am the other side of the track.

I had a pikey with a pony and trap coming towards me near ikea, so I slowed down for that (they are always in and around that area). Also had a traffic light change on me as I was just about to go through it, I saw the instructor boot it to get through behind me Smile

Other than that it was pretty uneventful.

Did the Mod 2 today in Mitcham. Passed in style apart from forgetting if have a pillion you might have to adjust tyre pressure which wasn't even a minor.

No minors, shortcut a corner once, but instructor was checking his blindspot I think.

The google tracks is great - check out my route as well if you like

I was on self-direction for the first ten minutes. Karma Cool

Nice one. I can't decide if being off the leash for the first ten minutes is harsh or generous. Job done though. Thumbs Up
