Hi,

Just picked this up dirt cheap from a guy I used to work with and rode it back from Doncaster to Leeds on the motorway:

https://i1323.photobucket.com/albums/u587/mjs1066/20130808_191943_zpsd500f68d.jpg

https://i1323.photobucket.com/albums/u587/mjs1066/20130808_191959_zps8fd9149f.jpg

It felt like a toy compared to the ZZR but then I realized it was cruising comfortably at 70mph while carrying a fat twat with a backpack full of tools... That's not too shoddy for a four stroke 125 to be fair.

The plan is to sell it for a nice profit but I can't decide if I should tart it up a bit or sell it as it is.

I needs a new back tyre, one of the forks seals changing, the screen is cracked but usable, exhaust is rusty as fook but not blowing, it has heated grips that don't switch on and the swing arm and alloy bits the footpegs attach to need painting.

Here's more pictures of the manky parts:

https://i1323.photobucket.com/albums/u587/mjs1066/20130808_192141_zpsee488000.jpg

It's been ridden through a couple of winters without so much as a wash I reckon, but runs nicely enough. It also has about 5 weeks tax and test and 30k on the clocks (new tax disc not currently in the holder obviously).

So what do you reckon? Tidy it up (they go for silly money on ebay compared to what I paid) or flog the fucker as is?

Definitely keep it!
They have a bit of mythical cult following as being one of the best all round and most capable 125's out there! It will always be worth more than most ordinary 125's so id keep it and keep your money safe in 2wheels!

I've never ridden one, but want to one day to experience their superiority over a lot of 125cc tackle. I expect the riding position and the feel is a bit like a TDR125 with just as much practicality but creamy smoothness and a much better tank range, and no chance of your clothes stinking of unburnt Silkolene comp2 at the end of every ride! Haha I had a feeling you would say that! I know you're rather fond of yours Laughing

I'm not keeping it though, got a little 'un on the way so I need the money. Besides the ZZR is proving to be a capable work horse so far.

And Stevo, if you ever find yourself up North you're welcome to take it for a spin Wink

2006? Wow, I normally ride bikes from the 80's and they are not that rusty. Did you ride it in winter? Confused

It is a 125 learner legal bike, Britain is basically winter all year round.

They get abused, surprisingly, the engine paint is in bloody good nick. Give it a quick scrub up and sort the small amount of rust, ignore the exhaust join thats rusty, it will burst through at some point anyway, fix it then.

I'd list it up for £1500. But then again, if I got it cheap, I'd run it into the ground, it will take a while Laughing

With a nice ZZR I can see that your probably well catered for already with regards to a practical and much more grunty workhorse.

A bit of tidying up and painting and you will get a really good price for it though, as they will always be a sought after 125 that people know are pretty good compared to most all road 125's.

Thanks for the offer mate. If I'm ever up your way and passing, then yeah I'd take it for a spin to see what they are like. Smile

Oh and look out for a couple of pics at the weekend, as I have just gone out and brought myself a bike that's not in boxes for a change! Laughing

Not much in the way of an update, but I have decided to tidy the bike up before I sell it (might as well, got to wait for the logbook anyway).

First job is the fork seals. I left the bike hanging from the roof beams in the garage and removed the wheel, mudguard and forks:

https://i1323.photobucket.com/albums/u587/mjs1066/20130818_170017_zpsb6f88b4e.jpg

They were looking rather nasty at first but have cleaned up nicely:

https://i1323.photobucket.com/albums/u587/mjs1066/20130818_170208_zps283899c3.jpg

The forks are pretty much exactly the same design as my old CB500 so a piece of piss job. I had the bike back in one piece within 90 minutes, I forgot how easy 125s are to work on! Thumbs Up

Next job will be repainting the swingarm and footrest mounts... I'm tempted to get them powdercoated, anyone have a rough idea what that might cost?

Just rub them down and spray them with Smoothrite if you're going to sell it. There's no use spending cash to add very little value. 99% of 125 buyers aren't going to know paint from powder anyway.

Swingarm is about to 30 quid to powder coat, far better than painting!

But much more hassle due to having to take all the bearings etc out.

Paint it if you're going to sell on

Powdercoat if you're planning to keep it.
