Don't understand why people add the horrible hdr effect to pictures, looks terrible.

Because of underexposure/overexposure in certain areas.

I'm not a fan of HDR, but there are a few exceptions where it really works...in HDR's defense most when compared to the original look much better, This one works...I would have deleted the original the moment i saw it otherwise.
Granted the light doesn't look natural, there are highlights where there shouldn't be highlights, but overall i could live with this image.
what program was used to convert?

Yes it looks more detailed than the original but still tacky as fook effect, would of just taken a better picture to start with. My apologies for hating hdr, bailout procedure for taking rubbish pictures Laughing

Just found in GIMP the Retinex filter helps get detail back from the shadows.
