Posted: 16:36 - 04 Sep 2013 Post subject: What can cause handlebar shake under heavy braking? |
 |
|
I was going round roundabout, not very fast (40 mph maybe, increasing the speed towards the exit). Then I misjudged other drivers intentions as to which lane he was going to pick and had to apply brake hard... released a little then applied again. The handlebars started shaking like mild tankslapper. I tried braking on a straight road later to see whether it would happen again but it did not.
What could have caused it?
I could have distributed to much weight on my handlebars my thoughts are, but I don't remember now.. The bike was a bit unsettled anyway.
Would you suspect something else? Bearings? Wheel balancing? My front tyre is 800 miles old.

I just went to that roundabout a while ago and I cannot tell it's excessively bumpy.. I noticed no cracks.. I don't think I hit a stone.. I cannot see any in the video ____________________ Current Bike: Yamaha XSR900 Previous bikes: Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja, Aprilia RS125 2-stroke |

one of the few things i remember from my cbt as it was told to us before we got our hands on the bikes and demonstrated to us was not to hit the front brake hard whilst trying to turn the bars. front wheel does not like it.
or for a shorter more truthful answer, poor obs caused it. ____________________ Sahf East Winnah 4LYF

It looks to me from the video that it's just too much brake applied too quickly. We've all done it
Suspension not getting enough time to transfer weight to the front, front wheel locks for a second till tyre gets properly loaded then normal service is resumed.
I'm sure you know this but for those that don't, don't grab a handful, squeeze the brake to load the front tyre then give it the big brake. It takes a millisecond longer but will stop you far more effectively. Not always the easiest thing to do when in panic situation though |

Looks like you hit an upwards dip coming off the roundabout that makes the banging sound on camera? I'm thinking that this may have compressed the suspension a tad then when braking compressed it even more so you no longer have any travel which is upsetting the bike.
Just seems like one of those freak occurrences where multiple factors came into play and that there actually anything wrong with the bike ____________________ Bandit 600 - deaded |
