The size and weight of it are excellent. I only went for the 1.5m version, so I'm hoping that it's not too much of an issue wrapping the chain around street furniture. My previous chain must be around 1.8-2m.

Here it is pictured next to:
- unbranded heavy lifting chain with a CISA 75 Padlock (top chain, red sleeve)
- Oxford chain and padlock (bottom chain, black sleeve)

She's going to be protecting the Thundercat, whilst the red chain is reserved for divvy duty.

Money well spent I believe, even if my bank account still hates me. Mr. Green

Can't understand why people would have issues carrying a chain, tailpack. Lighter than a pillion and if you value your bike a £20 tail pack means nothing.

Yup. Super easy to carry on the bike. As Paddy said, tail pack. Weighs less than a pillion.

Top stuff. Yeah, not light, but anything less will only last seconds to a pair standard issue tea leaf 42" bolt croppers.

Just don't fling it over your shoulder! I lug a 2m 26mm Pragmasis chain (very similar to the Almax) in top box and it's fine.

You might find the 1.5m Almax series 4 a bit tight to get round your bike and street furniture. ....ive got a 2.5m Almax 4 and the links are HUGE so dont bend in such a tight curve compared to thinner linked chains.

My 2.5m just about gets round my bike and ground anchor comfortably.

Almax were selling a chain with a Kriega tailpack, do they not do this anymore?

Just checked myself and no, they don't seem to.

We bought one when they did Razz

anyhoo....

I've used the Almax and tailpack. It is really not an issue to have the pack with the chain strapped to the back of the bike.

Well, street furniture is a bit of a push but it's doable. I had to nip in to university earlier to test some newly installed software, so I took the bike. There are several posts there which work perfectly for chaining the bike too. I've been paranoid about leaving a bike there since somebody tried to steal my XJ. My mind is now at ease.

I was torn between the 16mm at 2m or the 19mm at 1.5m for the same price. I decided on the 19mm in the end because I figure if I'm spending that money, I may as well buy the best that I can.

They no longer do the Kriega tailpack, I did ask. My tailpack is a little excessive in size compared to the chain, so I'll grab a smaller one at some point. I plan on getting one which straps on underneath the seat, so I can just leave the tail pack on when I'm out and about.

No great issue. I have a small, not very powerful bike, so I'm looking at the 13mm Pragmasis chain to keep the weight down. I also like the noose ring option they offer. Not as theft-proof as the 16/19mm Almax, granted, but still an upgrade from my current 11mm Magnum chain, and supposedly the toughest 13mm chain available.

This 19mm chain weighs 10kg or so according to the courier website. I personally think it's worth grabbing a bigger one so that you don't need to buy another one in the short future.

A small bike should still cope happily with an extra 10kg or so on the pillion seat. After all, it can cope with a pillion Very Happy

I regularly used the almax series 3 1.5m to chain up my CG125.

If you want to cut weight then you'd lose more by going on a diet.

If you have to park your bike up in Scroteville for any length of time it's no big deal. Small Kriega pack and it'll fit on a tiny 125. What's worse, carrying the chain or coming out and finding no bike? A determined thief with an angle grinder will have it anyway, but for anything else it's cool.

The best laugh I had was when talking with someone over the road in town, watching a scrote eye up the bike, give the chain a tyrekick like foot movement to weigh it up, then walk off in disgust. Priceless.

I also have a very powerless bike, Varadero 125, but it won't notice that much weight on there. Thumbs Up

I agree with everyone's views. If I was ever parking in a questionable area I would want the 19mm Almax. But I avoid doing so, and I don't commute on this bike so shouldn't ever have to. I will be doing some green laning which is why I'd prefer less weight, though I would only carry a chain if I knew I'd need it.

I have this chain, and the noose ring is great. It's a really great carry chain - nice size, strong enough for out and about, and has the advantage of easily fitting under the seat (well, my fazers seat)

1.2m. That's enough to go around the rear wheel and hook through the passenger footpeg if I'm not attaching it to anything, or noose around solid object then through wheel and back.

I bought a heavy duty one from halfords in haste as I wanted one asap it was £140 and comes with the same squires padlock as the op has. Not sure how good it is though, kind of wish I'd held out and bought an almax.

I've been wanting a heavy duty chain for a while now. An Almax probably judging by all the positive reviews I hear. Because I am moving to London.

If you live in London, there should be no question about it. Buy an Almax! And then buy two more normal chains just to make sure. This is my plan!

@Rigga.....the halfords £140 chain is shit and will be cut in less than 20seconds with bolt croppers it is no better than the chains on ebay that sell for £10-£20.
but its better than nothing i highly recommend you upgrade as soon as financially possible to either a pragmassis chain or almax chain.

if you dont believe the chain is shit check out the almax website with them cutting that type of chain real quick

Gonna get one ordered, just phoned almax though and it seems the series 4 won't fit through my ground anchor 62mm and my anchor is 59! So will have to be a series 3 then!

on a side note, anyone know of any tailpacks around the £30 mark that'll fit a 2m series 3?

My tail pack is similar to this one:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oxford-2013-1st-Time-Tailpack-/400568013072?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5d43b6d110

Except made by Givi and cheaper.

I paid £50 for a full soft luggage kit... so panniers, tail pack, tank bag and cargo net.

It's a bit big and is slightly annoying because it attaches using bungees rather than strapping underseat, which basically means that if I leave it on the bike, it could be pinched easily.

I'm going to grab one with an underseat strap, or add an underseat strap, at some point, just so that is less easy to pinch and I can leave it on the bike 24/7.
