Fill in the 'change of address' bit on the aforementioned documents.

Recently changed the address on my licence and V5.

Did the licence online, didn't need to send anything off
(apart from old licence cut in two).
New licence arrived in less than a week.

Had to fill out and post the V5 to the DVLA though.
Sent mine recorded delivery as they have a habit of
losing things. This took a bit longer to come back, two or
three weeks.

Hey,
When we moved i simply acted liked i'd lost my license, requested a replacement and changed my address on the form.

This means (Or should mean) that if the clowns at the DVLA loose an entitlement when changing your address you still physically have your original license showing your entitlements.

Cheers,
Shaun.

Good point. I didn't send back my old licence (cut up) until
I had received and checked the new one. Have heard stories
of peeps losing their entitlements and DVLA don't care.

It also means that when you flash your original ''lost'' licence at them, you run the risk of being nicked for making a fraudulent declaration.

This makes me wonder, from what i've read, even if you do this, they act asif you've made it up, so what can you do realistically?

Get the photocopy verified by a solicitor? Small cost but cheaper than retaking your tests.

"You found the license whilst unpacking the boxes after you had moved in to your new house" Very Happy

Surely they are unable to prosecute you as they would be unable to prove that you had not lost the license at the time of making the declaration. Finding the license post-declaration can surely have no impact on the declaration itself.

This also was not allowed from what I've read/ asked them down the phone.

It would surely stand up in court though, they would have no say in that matter?

Ive never actually had to request it thankfully, but ive hoped should it ever arise a photocopy of pass certs/license etc allows enough cross referencing to either let dvla chase it up (as if Rolling Eyes ) or you to dispute it to such an extent theyll fold. I.e comparing your photocopy against examination centre records etc.

Thats speculating though really touch wood i never end up in that hole Evil or Very Mad

I happened to lose both parts of my licence when I moved house a few years ago. I'm just about to send in my current licence as the photo is about to expire. If anything goes wrong I am sure I will be able to find my old lost licence.

I did my V5, licence and insurance recently.

Licence: as mentioned above, fill in the change address section and send it off. Mine took about 2 weeks

V5: same as above. Mine took 6 weeks (which was worrying, but you do keep part of the V5 so not all is lost if they lose it)

Insurance: luckily my renewal was in a month so I called them, got a renewal quote (which amazingly was cheaper than anywhere else) and changed my details at the same time so there was no extra premium/administration charge.

Photocopy your licence and send it registered delivery to your solicitor with instructions not to be opened unless instructed to do so. DVLA have a habit of removing licence classes. Better still just say you have lost it but retain the original for when they mess up.

DVLA- "Sorry we have no record of you ever having a full bike licence"
Me- "Oh what have i just found stuffed down the arm of my chair...Jeez it's my old license how on earth did that get there"

Would like to see them prove otherwise. It was 'lost', funnily enough lost things do sometimes get found.

Cheers,
Shaun R.

Definitely going to go for the 'lost' route next time I change my address. I'd be gutted if they went retard on me and stripped entitlements.

You would have thought they can view your entitlements by putting your name into the computer so if there are any problems you send ID in, or even go to one of their offices and get a new licence sorted then and there.
