OK, further to my request for advice on corners on one of the other forums, I think I might have found one issue, but would appreciate any pointers from you lot out there.
Had a close look at the rear tyre last night and saw that instead of the nice rounded profile from rim to rim I was expecting, it has a nice flat centre where the road fits when in normal straight line use.
Now then, my understanding of this is as follows.
On the flat and straight, this is of no problem as it gives a nice contact area for acceleration and braking, but on tilting over to go around a corner, the first thing the tyre has to do is go over the edge of the flat onto the sidewall tread and as such gives me a knifedge of contact, causing rear end twitching (of the bike and myself).
If I have this right, it expains why the CBF does not appear too surefooted on the road (especially in the wet) and means I need to spend a few quids in order to get it sorted and pick up the cornering mojo from there
Cheers guys

This was always known as a 'square death' tyre back when I was a teen
Tyres tend to square off if the bike does lots of motorway miles or if it's regularly thrashed in a straight line.
As the above, get a new tyre and you'll feel the difference but don't forget that new tyres need a little scrubbing in before you get good traction on them. |
