Haven't owned one, but I did use one for a week.

Hideous piece of crap.

Next question?

I think BMW thought lets just enlarge the size of a Bikers helmet by 10 fold and stick it on the Scooter.

But what happens when you have a accident on the side and your not wearing a lid lol.

Never ridden one, but they look like a bit of a gimmick to sell scooters!

First you get smashed to bits, because you're strapped to the bike, then you get done for not wearing a helmet, because the UK government refused to make C1 riders exempt.

I loved my C1, it was awesome in the wet and cold weather ~ windscreen wiper on, visor open, no wind in my face, no foggy wet visor, I stayed nice and dry..Ahhh happy days.
Mine was uber reliable, although I've heard they can be a bit hit and miss in this department.

Riders of these machines should be publicly flogged.

That is all.

Interesting. A guy has one at work and he still wears waterproofs as "some rain likes to come sideways".

Kinda negated the point of the bike methought

I take it you've done the right thing an ostracised him for being a terrible human being?

The only valid reason for buying one would surely be to burn it and therefore reduce the numbers in circulation.

Spoke to someone who owned one a couple years ago, remember him saying they had dangerous handling and worse so in the wind.

In the UK you legally need to have a helmet on a C1.

You need a helmet.
You wouldn't get stuck in it.

_Spoke_ to someone? I owned one for a couple of years and neither of those statements are accurate - I would say his riding abilities were probably the issue. I rode it all year round and always felt relaxed riding it. I sold it on after covering thousands upon thousands of miles in all sorts of weather - never having had a scary accident or losing control of it.

Well yes, it's obviously got open sides, I wouldn't go out in the rain wearing just pants. Travel at 60~70mph in the driving rain and you'll soon appreciate the massive benefits of the roof and windscreen wiper.

That's essentially it in a nutshell.

Let me guess. The helmet thing - they refuse to exempt - but because it's fitted with a seatbelt, that's mandatory?

I'm not sure about the law, but I'd guess that there's no legal requirement to wear the seatbelts because it's still just a bike.
Although you'd be crazy not to, riding without the belts in a C1 would _definitely_ be more dangerous than a standard bike in an accident.

I think it was a local resident who kept fighting it, variously won and then lost as it progressed. Haven't seen any in my town for a while now, used to be a couple of them around.

Don't cry because someone doesn't like C1's.

Not every bike is for everyone.

As of now however your comments on how it handles are just as much hearsay as the person who told me, no?

Don't believe either of you until I ride one myself Hand

Hopefully, that will never happen.

Does a person with helmet on fit into that? When I look at the picture the OP has posted it looks like there's not enough space for the lid. They sit upright, strapped on and it does look like there's not enough space behind their heads. I'm not even mentioning taller lads.

Something that a C1 owner/ex-owner knows better than anyone is this single fact. If I was worried about people not liking them I wouldn't have bought one - that said, nor am I representing the C1 fan club - but I am giving some actual 1st-hand feedback on the bike as opposed to the usual spiel people regurgitate about these bikes.

If someone asked about Fireblades I wouldn't enter the thread and start writing about them because someone once told me something about one once upon a time, having neither ridden one nor owned one myself.

To you, sure - but you're now passing it on second hand - so to the OP it's starting to become Chinese whispers.

Question - everyone says how dangerous these bikes are, but does anyone know how many fatalities/KSIs have occurred on a BMW C1?

There's plenty of room to wear a helmet without it touching anything whilst riding.
