Scooter riding

having been nocked off my bike again (will put it in the crash thread including paint and pictures etc) i was given a scooter as a hire bike. Initially i was like wtf i want geared but having often wondered what it was like to ride one on my commute i decided to give it ago....... Unfortunately i actually quite enjoy riding it and its a good blast however the number of times people seem to drive too close etc is shocking is this normal when your on a scooter or just me? Its a 125 so keeps up with the flow of traffic etc and i ride it as fast as my bike so its not like im holding them up.

Be grateful you got a hire bike, to be given one then refuse to use it on the grounds that it's a scooter would be fairly daft. Rolling Eyes

It's just how it is. They don't respect scooters, even though some of them are actually alright!

I rode a Honda NC700D as my courtesy 'bike' the other week. Fantastic thing, it's a hybrid twist 'n' go, 110mph, actually really rapid on the acceleration. Shows cars that not all scooters are slow.

You usually ride a 125 i'm guessing as the insurers generally give like for like?

You get given a bike with the same size engine, the same top speed and ride on the same roads. The difference being that the tank & engine are under your arse instead of between your legs.

Because of the relocation of the engine/fuel tank it means you should hug the kerb & ride like a cabbage.

I rode a scooter for a few months after my CBT. Was treated like road scum by everyone, including bicycles. I wondered whether it was the scooter or the L plates. When I got a geared bike (still with L plates), I was treated as a slightly higher form of scum and mostly ignored by bicycles. Then I got my license and mid-sized bike and now I'm treated as scum by 20-year-old women in Minis and Audis and fat stockbrokers in SUVs. Still ignored by bicycles, though, so that's progress of sorts.

I'm riding around on a Varadero with L plates... mainly because the brother is borrowing to get around and I can't be bothered to remove the L plates. I get treated no different like that than when I ride without L plates or on my TL.

Just ride faster than the car thats causing you any grief. Saves the hassle and you get a 1 up on them, ding ding ding. Added points for dropping your trousers and shitting into the wind during the overtake.

20 further additional points if the car is white.

I could not care what any other biker does, nor could I care what any car drivers do.
