Garage 2, since were using a breaker bar and 4 people, don't have an air impact gun to undo it?

Have damaged the shaft trying to remove it with the incorrect tools, and are now blaming garage 1 for it, so they don't have to cover the repair cost.

Simple

Possibly. It could also be that garage 1 over tightened it.
Their airgun may have been;
    - set too high.
    - set to the correct torque but fired till it shut off multiple times, resulting in a higher torque.
    - in need of calibration.

But seriously who sits at home using a torque meter to check their bolts are still as they should be.
I torque them up once with an adjustable torque wrench when I install them and they don't get touched till next time they need to be removed.

Once you find a good mechanic stick with them. I've stopped looking for official/approved garages, they're just as likely to be cowboys than non approved garages in my experience.

Rolling Eyes left to loosen, right to tighten.

The quote is actually "lefty loosey, righty tighty".

Except, of course, when it's a left hand thread - but we all knew that eh? Wink

Because then some enraged customer feels the need to post your company name in a bad way on a forum?

Although to be honest, it all depends on how the OP spoke during the phone conversation...

Ok, I probably wouldn't be rude, but I wouldn't entertain anything UNLESS he was a very regular customer and I wanted to keep him sweet.

Tbh from reading this thread OP's original garage doesn't deserve a high google ranking with a page about how bad they are. A year later I would've done the same - not really worthy of "Avoid avoid avoid at all costs".

Map, something similar happened to me last week. The 500 was boiling over when riding the bike hard, so I took it to a place (I was 150 miles from home) and he basically left it idle for 20 minutes to find no problem. Despite the fact that I had told him it needs riding hard....I didn't plan on idling the bike back home. On the way back I noticed it was idling high, I pulled into a service station...shorted the rad fan turn down the idle and mtfu. Either do it yourself, or check the work after its done.
Bikes in my garage, and I'll sort it out myself.

i have to say the guys at transit are good,

i have dealt with them for around 14 years after buying my first ever machine from them.

i have to agree with some critical points here

you leave it a year with no maintainance

you said people swing on a breaker bar

personally i think if you took better care of your machine you wouldnt need to slate people for your own mistakes

^^^^This

As a member of BCF, I've got no reason to disbelieve the OP, but as a garage owner, the phone conversation would've gone pretty much the same way.

I would also be wondering why it took you a year to complain, whilst admitting you didn't give me a chance to rectify the problem.

Even though SOGA and Trading Standards are coming down ever harder on retailers, they at least allow that they should have a fair crack at resolving issues; badmouthing someone a year after the event, when they haven't even been allowed to see the thing, is not a fair crack.

I realise this is a bit of a bounce for this thread but just spotted it and as a long time user of Transit I can only give them the highest praise.

I've bought several bikes from them over the years and tend to get all my bits and pieces off them. I tend nowadays to do most of my own spannering but wouldn't hesitate in recommending them.

As for this case, if you'd brought the bike back to them I'm sure they would have sorted it but just ringing up out of the blue and stating a nut was done too tight and that you want compensating as your new mechanic may have shagged something up getting it off is a bit rich.

Your mechanic should have been either able to get it off with a bit of heat without doing any damage or should have told you to take it back to the dealer in question. Personally I'd be more worried about using a mechanic who couldn't get off a seized axle nut without damaging the shaft it was on.

I was looking for Transits number & came across this old thread.

I have used Transit for many, many years.
I have NEVER had anything but good service from them.
They keep the same staff whom are really competent.

I have no experience of shoddy work with them- I am a motorcycle instructor

I would have no hesitation in recommending them in the future.

Regards
Rod

Since we've dug it up I'll add my ten penneth;

I work literally across the road from Transit York and have known/used them for years. No complaints, I don't expect them to know every little thing about every bike ever made just like any mechanic. I use them for tyres a lot, only ever had one beef with Andy after he tried to bluff his way out of fitting a T30 when I asked for a T30 EVO. We kissed and made up and LoLs were had all round, meh.

Good MOT chap to have too, doesn't have a beef with my Remus GP cans or HID retrofits (yes, I'm one of those cunts)

So you are an instructor, it would be fair to assume you do a highish mileage so often need work done. You have used them for years and yet you don't have their phone number? Really?

(in the witness stand)....
Yes, I am an instructor qualified through the DVSA(formerly DVLA)
Yes I have used them for conservatively for the last 14 years.
Yes I do highish mileage
Yes-I do need work doing
Yes- I did not have their number when I wanted to call them(approximately 05 minutes before I posted & resurrected the 2 year old thread)- I used Google to look up their number & came across this old thread; read it & decided to post my experiences; which are all positive.
(judges summary)

There is nothing deep & deedy here..he simply chose to google Transits number..there is no case to answer...
case dismissed (all rise)....and you SickPup...

......jog on.

I can vouch for Rod. He was one of the instructors there when I did my CBT and subsequent DAS, although he didn't instruct me personally (I had long haired Andy for CBT and several others for DAS).

Also, Transit motorcycles are excellent. Used them many times for parts and a few of my pals have scooters purchased from them. Everyone raves about how good they are.

And sickpup... I have a car garage I've used for about 6 years. I don't have their number saved or written down.

This is getting ridiculous.. Companies house registers LTD companies. What if they are a partnership or sole traders?....this would make them arguably a better bet & potentially more trustworthy...WHY?..
...I will leave you to do the research!....but I fear this will take the original subject post off topic...Transit motorcycles get my vote & business for honest professional work carried out over the last 14 years to my certain knowledge.
I have no connection to this company beyond what I have already stated..I am a repeat satisfied customer supporting an independent good company run by bikers for bikers..read the original post and take a view on the complaints validity

Limited companies and partnerships are registered with Companies House. Wink

If they are sole traders then they wouldn't have a registered office.

Ste- I have no desire to ridicule you on a public forum- especially when the subject post is nothing to do with limited companies.
..please trust me when I state you are wrong.
