SV650S 1999 - weird sound under acceleration

Evening all,
I recently bought a 1999 SV650S, in blue, and had a 33BHP restriction kit fitted in the inlet rubbers, before it was fitted I had a very experienced friend ride the bike to the garage, and the only problem he found was the tire pressure! I've only been riding the bike yesterday and today, and it is very new to me, but what I have found is that under normal acceleration the bike makes a weird sound, more of a clunking sound, after googleing around it seems its a pretty common issue for the SV, and I have read stories of people having to replace the cam chains for £400>, those whose engines have completely seized , and those who just rolling the bike back in 1st fixes the problem!
It's leaving me pretty confused , as some people say it's fine just leave it, whereas others say don't think about running the bike until it's fixed!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this may be, I might try the 1st gear roll back tomorrow and see if it makes any difference.

I was under the impression the cam chain makes a kind of 'rattle' as opposed to a 'clunk'.

It is quite important to know what type of noise it is, in order to figure out what it could be...

So it becomes faster when the revs rise?

If you could describe the sound as a light 'ticking' that goes up with the revs then I could say with relative certainty that it's the CCT acting up. I had 4 or 5 SV's and they all made that noise. Replacing the CCT's made it go away as they were correctly tensioning the cam chain. forums.sv650.org will confirm this for you.

Don't post anything on that forum though. Just use it for reading. As that forum is fucking depressing as fuck and full of sensible simons.

Yep, its a rattle alright, rather annoying, I can only really hear it between 3-5k revs, and is constant whenever I have the power on, the bike was fine today, I see no problem in terms of riding, is there any chance this could be due to the drive chain touching the front chain guide, as when I checked they are touching, need to adjust that soon I think.

More than likely your drive chain isn't tightened correctly and it's hitting the swing arm, there should be 1.25 inches of play on the bottom of the chain pushing it up toward the swing arm to test.

Early sv' had a recall to fit an oil baffle plate in the sump to prevent crank shells running dry from air being pulled into the oil pump, Do you know if yours had the work done?
