Hi guys, my son's xj600 pre-divvy oil light comes on every now and again. If he's cruising on the motorway at high speeds it is fine but comes on at time up or down hill or when hard accelerating.
I know that the diversion is an oil level switch rather than a pressure switch but is the pre-divvy the same?
Anyone got any idea?
Thanks
Dave

Both my Yamaha FJ1200's oil light would come on up very steep hills.

My XJ650 (pre-pre-divvy) also has an oil level light rather than a pressure light, so I would say your son's bike has an oil level light. Top the oil up.

Thanks guys, level looks ok on the sight glass but will double check and put a drop in if needed.

If the oil level is okay then it's just physics doing its tang imo.

My oil light used to do slightly strange things if the oil level was around 1/4 full. When it's 1/4 full, it's entirely too easy to make it look 1/2 or 3/4 full by slightly tipping the bike too far whilst checking the oil level.

I've recently had the same thing on my xj900 divvy, topping it up solved the issue.

I think it's to do with the placement of the sight glass or something, it is very easy to look like a good level because the bike is a couple of degrees from upright when in fact it is barely above the minimum.

My pre-Divvy XJ600 did this when it was cold. It had over 55,000 miles on it and was running sweet as a nut when I sold it. As said, it is a level light, but since you have a sight glass anyway then you can verify oil level by eye.

Thrust SSC did this under breaking, all the oil gets flung to the front of the sump and the switch is activated.
