Hi all,

hope someone can help, I've owned my Blade for about 6 months and almost 4000 miles and it's never missed a beat, pootling in traffic or screaming round the Isle of Man this year but today, after a short ride back from work, after waiting at the traffic lights for a minute or two, it really struggled pulling away...the worst thing being I almost didn't pull away from the moped eyeballing my bike! It really felt as if I'd try to pull away in 3rd or 4th, it was really weird, it then picked up after some high revving and was fine for a minute or two then it felt sluggish again briefly then fine, i was near home then so pulled into the drive and left it running for abit, held it at different revs for a bit but no problem.
I'd be very grateful if anyone could suggest anything, it's had a full service, at the end of May, there is fuel in there, not loads but not on reserve light.
Thanks buckets!
Dan

Your clutch is slipping. Common reasons are:

Cable stiff from being full of gunge at the ends or frayed
Not enough free-play in the cable
Clutch pack worn

First thing to do is loosen off the cable adjuster and check that the cable moves freely. you should be able to remove the cable at the engine and push-pull it with light effort and make the lever flap about.

Hardly clutch, I do think the OP knows how to ride a bike! First place I would look is at the Fuel Pressure Regulator. These seem to be a Honda fail component along with the R/R's and stators.

If you have an electric fuel pump the points inside might be worn/ sticking.

Pop the bottom of the pump off and check the contact points, if they aren't too bad just double up some fine sand paper and runit between the contacts to clean them up.

My bike would behave like yours every now and then until I ran the bike with the fuel tap turned off whilst warming up one morning and the contacts failed completely.

A battery going low from a dying winding/reg rec can make a bike run rough until the revs get up too.

Cheers guys, it did feel to me more fuel symptomatic than clutch as revving whilst slipping the clutch which was biting fine seemed to alleviate the problem then only a little reoccurance half a mile later but not as severe. Serviced about 2000 miles ago in May but don't think the filter was changed but I'll check as it was mate who did it at his garage, I know I had to change one on my '98 CBR600, that had really gone.
Might be worth changing the Rectifier and pump anyway, sooner rather than later to be safe...I can check the contacts to be sure at the time, can't be getting taken at the lights by a Honda Melody!

I'll keep an eye on the clutch too, see if I notice any loss of bite....regarding the battery, I have noticed a little drop in kick when starting but then it's getting colder and alas he's outside at the mo.

Fuel pressure regulators are a very common problem on 929's and 954's. The diaphragms fail and fuel is sucked directly into the throttle bodies.

Cause pretty similar symptoms to what you're describing, along with terrible fuel efficiency. Laughing

Pull the tank up and locate the FPR (on the end of the fuel rail on the left hand side of the bike).

Pull of the vacuum tube and check to see if its wet, it is is, you need a new FPR.

If it isn't, the fuel may have evaporated, take the vacuum pipe off and turn the ignition on and off letting the fuel pump prime. If fuel starts pissing out the hole, you need a new FPR.

My bike is hesitant to pull away when the fan is on, have to give it noticeably more revs to pull away cleanly

Sorry, not had a chance to look at the bike due to work and lack of cash! I went for a ride and hot or cold the bike ran fine but you know when you feel something isn't quite right so you're waiting for something to go pop, will work on it next month and see if I can fix it.
Thanks
