derker is a fairly big council estate, so yeah was a high risk anyway, i am to be honest somewhat disheartened about biking in general, i am unsure as to weather i will get a new one to be honest, i move house start of the year if i can build a brick shed (small garage) in my garden then that would ease the theft fears.... i hope MCE are not too bad with claiming, protected no claims and excess insurance so i hope this is not too painful, thanks for the comments lads, shit experience, shit it happened to you too, darkstar, lets just hope both parties are killed joyriding Thumbs Up

well Ive had a report from some "locals" that they have stripped it, used it for a scrambler, dumped it and burned it.

Frankly im in bits. Crying or Very sad Just want whats left of it back to see if I can rebuild her. waiting on a call but its all based on ifs, buts and maybes so god knows if i will ever see it again.

Had a visit from the police today, I told them that the building on the end of the road has CCTV of the street over the ten hour period it would have gone.

They told me they don't have the resources to study it! but would ask the building owners to check the footage, that gives me confidence...

You can and should request the footage yourself. It can cost up to £10. The police can be lazy, but if you walk in with the exact footage or still images to show them, they might do something.

Qualified good news, everybody. Thumbs Up

GMP will have nice little business going, getting kickbacks from their recovery firm for sweeping up stolen + ragged out bikes from the usual locations.

Paddy is quite right that the person responsible for paying the recovery and storage costs is the one who put it there, not you. Plod Plc and the pound goons will of course choose to not read or believe the actual law on that.

It will be a close call on value once your excess and ongoing premium hikes are taken into account. Best of luck on not being victimised a 2nd and 3rd time by Plod Plc and your insurer.

That's disgusting. You're a victim of a crime. Contact your local MP and have him write to the local chief police officer.

Good luck.

i found out the culprit, tol everything to the police he has even surfaced with a damaged right elbow (consistent with the damage on the right side), know criminal on probation, i said surely they can substantiate with his fingr prints, the damage, and details of where it was kept, when it was stolen etc, now they decided they have no fingerprinted and insurer already recovered, the police are a fucking joke, over a grand a year for council tax...insurer (mce, with 4th dimension) offered 1,500 which i consider an insult ! i have provided them loads of adverts and such as well as full service history for my bike, 18 months old FSH still in warranty only 7000 miles, they are going for 17-1900, i have suggested no less than 1700, we will see... mce have not been that bad as of yet, to be quite honest

Sounds like the police are inviting you to dole out your own punishment then Twisted Evil

Just as a matter of interest, was it left outside your house, or locked in your garden etc?

A friend of mine nearly got his bike stolen too, he luckly had the steering lock on and the idiot tried to snap it out of place, bending the bars and lock then gave up, didn't think he noticed the heavy duty padlock and ground anchor, he wouldn't of had a clue Middle Finger

I thread my chain though the sprocket with a bolt cutter proof lock. Sorry to hear about it I will share it around.

Doesn't stop scrotes from nicking and torching it.

Almax and ground anchor. Cheap alarm and something in case the alarm needs your attendance.

Why?

So the insurance company gets their bike back after they've paid out on it?

Putting a "Protected by AlphaSmartDotDataWaterTag" sticker on it will have exactly the same deterrent effect on a potential thief as actually paying to tag it.

My Beemer is Datatagged, I haven't even bothered paying the £15 to change the registered owner over to myself. It's not me that'll benefit from it.

OP, get a formal complaint in about your local Plodfarce. Go via the IPCC site to get the local Farce's professional standards contact details and get stuck in.
