What the hell could the Citizen's Advice do to help him, other than say "appeal the decision"? Or the NHS? ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

They did this to my dad too he has spondylosis and can't bend down to do his shoes up. She asked him to show how much movement he had and the bint wrote on the report. Full movement Despite him not being able to lean forward more than about 20 degrees. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. It could be a good system. But as with everything run by government that's outsourced, it isn't.
Unless you've got a few limbs missing, most people take one look and assume you're fit for work. People get tarred with the same brush because there are people milking the system. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

But Hetz isn't a 16 year old girl, he's a big bloke with violent delusions and a criminal reco- ohhhh.
On topic, ATOS can indeed burn in a lake of hellfire.
A relative of mine got stung with this, they put her down as fully fit even in the face of her clear medical records and the obvious fact that she can barely breathe. Apparently managing to show up for the evaluation was all the evidence they needed. But of course not showing up would have got her DLA stopped by default.
Fortunately both her GP and specialist went off the rails at them for it. One of her health workers blabbed that they reject almost everyone at the first go and you're expected to appeal two or three times depending on how their targets are that month.
It's essentially euthanasia by spreadsheet, executing the most vulnerable and meek by an ISO accredited procedure. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

well a friend had some issues and was refused, so i read up a bit and put a post up about it..just for clarity, you understand..
it's long and a bit old, but does highlight a few issues
" for those like myself unfamiliar with A-TOSS and the processes, whats all the fuss about... ?)
so is it just the whining layabouts who are up in arms then... ?
| Quote: | The performance of Atos Healthcare in the UK in respect of medical assessments has been criticised by the Commons Select Committee for Work and Pensions,[38] by individual MPs[39] and by the Tribunal judiciary
It is also frequently criticised by journalistic publications, especially Private Eye, as well as by advocacy groups such as the Citizens Advice Bureau,[40] disabled people's organisations |
So quite a few bods then.
well they can't really moan when experts in their field make the assessments about abilities...
| Quote: | Atos assessors are not required to be familiar with disability healthcare prior to recruitment |
Oh, well err... i bet they spend a fortune on them getting them thoroughly trained once recruited...
| Quote: | Doctors receive EIGHT DAYS of training in disability before being allowed to assess patients and nurses receive a seventeen day training course accredited by the University of Derby |
well perhaps you don't need much training, it's only a bit of Disability after all, people are suffering from...
| Quote: | fewer than half (1404) are, "healthcare professionals" | 'health care professional'
well that makes sense, after all health professionals are expensive, what with all the touchy, feely people skills that have picked up along the way
There must a whole load of Non health care professionals out there begging for a bit of extra cash
You know maybe a 'Doctor' who perhaps has been doing lab tests on rats and mice for the last umpteen years could still be used as an assessor after his/her week of training.
| Quote: | A very common complaint is the refusal of the assessors to make eye contact,[45] aggravated by their working from a computerised script (LiMA) which attempts to distill the complexity of disability into yes/no answers. |
Well what do people expect, where are they gonna get the people skills they need for this,.... lab rats ain't exactly chatty you know
Ok so mistakes get made, but they always have the appeals process...
| Quote: | Assessors have found patients with terminal cancer or severe multiple sclerosis to be fit for work |
......well if you put it like that...
Well, even the whiners can't moan when doctors feel its all above board and very, very professional...
| Quote: | She (doctor) concluded that she did not feel it was possible for a doctor to work as an Atos assessor and simultaneously adhere to their professional responsibility to place the needs of the patient first at all times.[45]
In response to a comment by a reader of the article that Atos doctors did not owe claimants their normal duty of care,[50]
the Standards and Fitness to Practise Directorate of the General Medical Council issued guidance[51] that Atos assessments are indeed a doctor-patient interaction and that doctors have to make the interests of their patients their first concern at all times |
Really...ok, you may have a point
So why not (just to check all was Ok) have a look at the assessment given by the so called assessors...
| Quote: | Attempts by advocacy groups, and even MPs, to secure access to LiMA in order to demonstrate its weaknesses have been refused on the grounds of commercial confidentiality |
Shit...maybe that disabled crowd have got a point...

A report from the mail..
"According to the programme, two-and-a-half million people in the UK take the test because they are too ill to work.
But more than 176,000 cases go to appeal tribunals each year, costing the taxpayer an additional £50 million.
.."The programme, which airs tonight, features the story of one man who suffered from heart failure and died 39 days after being declared fit for work.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2180899/Flawed-disability-tests-send-genuinely-sick-unable-work.html
70% successful challenges Is extortionately high.....are they really that inept that they fail to spot 'real' disabilities OR is this nothing more then a mismanaged cost cutting exercise...
BTW... why exactly is it that a French Company is performing this 'Service' for us....
| Quote: | The contract with the DWP was believed to be worth £400 million to Atos |
Ah... :thumright:
thats cleared that up...(now just need to know who took the kick backs for that decision... )
This post hit a spot with me...
| Quote: | "i'm disabled, an ex soldier, i worked bloody hard from the age of 25 until until my health failed about 3 years ago.
......i had 3 breakdowns and i'm also ill physically. i've done jobs that would make most puke, worked as a carer, on sewage works, factories, offices.
but i am on crutches, and have mental health problems and i'm over 50,
i've even been told by a jobcenter disability adviser ( i wanted to go for training, anything to get a job) that i stood no chance at all of getting a job.
i am ashamed to be british, ashamed i ever served in the military of a country that treats people like this,
i'm ashamed of you all for not standing up against this and by you i mean every british citizen,
i'm ashamed of myself because i can't work, and ashamed of a goverment that bullies the disabled but makes lords of tax avoiders and drug money launderers.
