Hello members, i have come back to ask another question as you people were very helpful last time!
I bought an engine a few months back and I took the sprocket off and the was like a hole/ split in the engine right next to the generater cover/crank casing? I took the engine cover off and the is like a generater inside? Or something? I have an am6 engine and the crack is on the left, I cannot buy a new cover a that is fine, it's the actual engine, but no oil gos into the part of the engine as it's electric part/ generater, I turned bike on and no oil came out after putting some in (other side of engine where kick is etc! But the other side where gear leaver is the is a crack/split in the engine, te is a gasket on the cover but I think that's to stop water getting in? Sorry I'm new to bikes! Someone please help!:) and I can't return engine, i didn't know it had hole but I still can't return it!

No, oil and generators are not friends. People have left them cracked and not worried about it. I'd use the chemical metal and close it up.

Okay thanks very much, very helpful, just out of interest if water got in could it damage the generater? Also is the gasket there to stop water and things getting in? I am going to buy some of that filler now, thanks mate

Water and generators are not good friends either. It's an electricity thing.

Strange... my VF1000 has a 'wet' generator running in the sump oil.... apparently its a more common arrangement these days, now engines don't tend to have points.
