Think I'm gonna get a new bike when my insurance is up for renewal in February but I want to start thinking about what I want now .Insurance is a big factor but hopefully this year with me being 20 and having 3 years NCB it should drop a fair amount. My FZR is good and I like it but I just fancy a change. After my off ages ago I haven't been able to get any replacement fairings so its covered in scratches on the left hand side and I just want something nice again.
My preferences are either a sportsbike or a naked, just depends what bike takes my fancy. Want about 90/100bhp. So that's mainly 600 territory I suppose. Budget is about a grand, could spend a few hundred quid more if it's something good.
Just want to see if anyone suggests something that I haven't considered.
Cheers. |

Not too clued up on nakeds. Sportsbike wise, late 90's 600 all made around 100bhp, though your budget might be a bit restrictive.
You should get a Ninja or a Thundercat though
Why 90/100 bhp out of interest?
I got a cracking ZX7r for £1250 but its more 110 bhp.

If your not fussed on BHP, there are quite a few more bikes.

Hmm, I seem to be pretty lucky when it comes to insurance, since turning 19 I can now insure a zx6, GSXR, fireblade etc for about £250 a year.
In fact when my insurance is up for renewal on my hornet next month, MCE have quoted my about £150. ____________________ Generic XOR 50, Gilera SMT 50, GSXR 400 GK73A, Ducati Monster 600, Honda Hornet 600.

ZX7R is what you need, enough power but not too much for the open road with fully adjustable suspension and great riding position. It feels like grand prix came to the town when I fire it up.
EDIT: Or an 750 SRAD, R7 and so on. 750cc is just perfect for any rider. A bit too fast for me, but I just covered 600km on the ZX7R so I don't know the bike well yet.

Stop suggesting ZX7Rs! I really want one but the insurance is too much. Also 750 sports bikes are out of the question, can't insure 600s so I doubt I'll be able to insure the 750 version, I'll do a few quotes now just to make sure though.
As I said before a Hornet is looking like the best option at the moment, only £270 to insure and I was looking at buying one before I bought my FZR 2 years ago.
I looked at RF6/900s a while back but I've changed my mind, they're too much like a tourer for my liking. Got no need for a tourer. Also the 900 is too much of a power increase, I'm sure I could handle it and part of me wants to go out and buy the most powerful thing I can afford but then I don't want to have nothing to look forward to.
Reed, you are very lucky. A lot of it depends on where you live and what you do though. I'm a student living in a postcode rated 'D' I think so it's not the best.
Insurance for my FZR has halved from last year, getting quotes for around £300-£350 when it was £650 last year, but like I said, I can't get hold of replacement fairings and just fancy something different.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
EDIT: Cheapest quote for a GSXR750 is a grand. |

Time to change the location, I pay here, in CZE 58.69GBP per year, it doesn't cover vandalism and theft.
I went to my insurance company and said, I want the cheapest product you can offer me, try it too and if they won't, then tell them that you can have better conditions with another company. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ
