Hi guys.
I finally decided to make a topic as I'm 100% convinced I'll own a bike by the beginning of spring. Hopefully with your help I'll not be making too many mistakes in this ''I wanna be a biker'' process.
First things first, I'm a foreigner waiting for my drivers license to get changed into an uk one (just sent it a couple of days before) and I'm planning to do the CBT asap.
Got a couple of questions here: How big is the bike that I'm allowed to drive just with the CBT (I have to mention I'm 25 and I have a B category license since 2007) and how soon can I apply for a full A license?
Now about the bike I'm looking for... I'm 5.7 and weight about 10 and a half stones so I'm looking for one that I could lift back up in worst case scenarios . I don't really like the racing look type of bikes and I'm not really the chopper type either, so somewhere in between would be preferred. I've been looking on the internet and I must say I like the Honda CB250 RS , 250 Superdream or even the XL look( I must say I wouldn't mind an enduro at all).
I'm looking for something basic as I'm a complete newb with motorcycles, something that I can fiddle about with and start the learning process and quite reliable. I plan on doing Sheffield to London or to Wales trips as I have mates there, just to get some experience on two wheels. I wouldn't mind a 125 at the beginning either, but I think they are a lot dearer.
I don't plan to go on a 600 cc one from the start as I believe I will die on my first 5000 miles knowing my enthusiasm
Budget would be at around 1000 quid max
Thank you guys for having a look over this topic, although you're probably bored to bits by this type of questions, and any help will be highly appreciated
Cheers,
Vlad |

For the money you could look at things like Kawasaki er500 or cb500 as they would be good for the longer trips as well as day to day usage. The cb250 and XL are hard to find good ones as they are very old now....as for the super dream.....no don't do it! Far to big a bike for the power which means they get thrashed stupid and by now all will have problems. Not a fun bike to ride either but they are comfy I guess just not for long distance and also old. Enduro style would be like sitting on a plank for more than a 50 mile ride ie kle500 but can do it and fun for shorter trips. As for not getting a faster bike....well I guess that's up to your right hand to behave when needed ____________________ Current bikes...cbr929, KDX200's, Rd125lc mk2, RGV250's |

I kind of like them old. The rat look works well for me, naked bikes mad max style ). The kawasaki looks too chunky, don't think I will look good on it (I'm a skinny lad). I'm saying 1000 quid for the right bike, I could do with a lot less for a first two wheeler (I know I'll probably trash it) |
