anybody else addicted to coffee?

I think I realised it was a problem when I tried to give up and only lasted 1 day Shocked If I don't get my daily fix I find I'm grouchy and my only priority is finding the nearest costa or coffee machine.

I hate the thought of being addicted to something so I'm going to seriously try and give it up.

Anyone given up coffee after being addicted? any advice? Laughing

It's not heroin you faggot. 1 day and couldn't handle being grouchy?

Behave!

I went from 10 cups a day to none with no effects, just replaced it with vimtoad.

First time I had a coffee in about 5 weeks I had stomach ache!

Kind of is.

It's particularly hard to quit, because it's particularly easy to get.

Try it. Come off of it for 6 months, totally clean, then down three or four cups of coffee.

Cost and health effects? although that last video leads me to believe there are no negative health effects.

I also don't like the thought of being addicted to something.

Pretty sure energy drinks have a lot more caffeine in them.

I get a headache if I don't have at least 1 coffee a day LOL.

I had a headache today, couldn't figure out why, then I remembered no coffee this morning!

Wouldn't give it up though, as long as I have 1 I'm fine. However since working in an office my co-worker has at least 7 black coffees a day so that's definitely a reason why my consumption goes up at work Rolling Eyes

Coffee is rarely good enough that I want it, Costa shite is usually vile, bitter and leaves you with a stomach ache, instant from grounds is similarly wank and doing your own quality cups (no, a Tassimo type thing doesn't count, I'm talking grinding fresh beans and percolating etc) is a ball ache that's usually time consuming. Rather have a massive cup of tea made from leaves if I can be arsed, a small tea with 2 or 3 teabags if not. Just personal preference though.

Shocked

My thinking is, if you're only going to have the one cup in a day as I usually do (morning), better make it concentrated and leave it to stew for 5 minutes before taking the bags out and throwing in a splash of milk. Wink

I got one of those mocha pots. Great gadget, and with the right coffee makes a really good espresso. I limit myself to one cup (or equivalent) a day, so I only bought a small one.

I sometimes have a single espresso in the morning before exercising if I'm feeling lethargic. When it begins to kick in, I'm half way through my work out, so it gives me a good kick up the arse to finish.

I get this. If I don't at least have a coke when I start to get one, it quickly grows and within a few hours I'm pretty much incapacitated as my frontal lobes try to escape through my eye sockets.
It's a bit like going cold turkey though, once you get through that then there's no requirement for caffeine.

I have about 1 cup every other day.

I like it, but I can't always find the energy to make it. It takes a while to roast and grind the beans to a full french roast with medium fine particle size, prepare the cafetiere by inserting a single use Nylon filter membrane, weigh out the coffee, get the Evian to exactly 95C and steep for 4 minutes and 35 seconds in 470 ml of water under a slight vacuum.

This morning, I had run out of Jersey milk aliquots and couldn't find my pippette. To add to it, my wife had changed from dark muscavado from Tesco to dark muscavado from Sainsbury's and I hadn't calibrated the sweetness yet so it just tasted strange. Crazy female suggested changing the degree of roastness the other day, I declined as I couldn't take the time off work.

Results vary by graph, but the majority look something like this:

I buy the senseo pods. Haven't drunk instant coffee for literally years.
60 pods a week habit = £12.27 a week which translates to £613.50 a year. (-two weeks holiday so just 50 weeks)
I can drink 3 of them just before bed and still sleep like a baby.

I love coffee, but I'm talking actual coffee. I have one of those stove top efforts and a food processor that came with a spice/coffee grinder that we only ever use for coffee beans (spices get the pestle and mortar treatment). A coffee is more of an event than a drink for me. From selecting the beans I'm most in the mood for, grinding them to the appropriate coarseness, filling and assembling the espresso maker, putting it on the hob and waiting for it to do it's thing, then settling down and enjoying a wonderfully fresh and bold coffee.

I have an espresso made like this once a week or so tops. Aside from that, I have a self pity/indulgent special from starbucks... A full fat hazelnut mocha with whipped cream on top. I that once a month at most. I cannot stand any form of instant or machine coffee, so give the whole thing a wide berth.

Now tea. Tea is a drink I cannot live without. Whilst I do not get any withdrawal symptoms if I don't get my tea fix (I can and have gone weeks between teas when circumstances dictate), I do get through upwards of 8 cups a day. Again though, it has to be good stuff. None of this tetleys/typhoo/own brand shite (having said that, asda own brand bog standard tea, was blue box & gold foil, is a very acceptable brew). I buy pretty much all my tea from tea merchants. My everyday bag is a proprietary blend specially suited to the local water type. Evenings and weekends the pot comes out and I have the choice of several loose leaf teas to choose from depending upon time of day and situation (for example, I would never dream of serving something as bold as an assam in an afternoon with cakes for example, nor something as mellow as a Ceylon - Nuwara Eliya infused with jasmin as a breakfast tea).

I cut back from a dozen cups a day, a couple of years ago, but would get headaches all the time so I slowly picked my intake back up and they disappeared.

However, about two months ago, I went down hard with campylobacter and was off everything for a few days. Since then I haven't had a single cup and I feel so much better for it. I sleep better, have fewer headaches and generally feel in better health. That might be more about the 2-3 litres of water I've replaced the coffee with rather than the coffee itself or it might be because a dozen coffees equalled 2 dozen spoons of sugar I'm no longer imbibing. Either way, I don't fancy drinking it again any time soon.
