 |
|
Well folks, after riding around on Manx roads for the past 18 months or so, I'm taking myself and the bike over to the UK for a few days next week for the first time and although I'm probably worrying about nothing, I just thought that some of the good folks who post here might be able to give me a few tips, as I have never ridden or drove on UK roads before.
Basically, I'm getting the ferry to Heysham and riding down to my hometown of Liverpool. I'll be doing it on a 125 and not using motorways as I'm still on my provisional licence (test is booked for the end of next month).
I am planning on travelling down via the A6 and A59. Now considering that I'm not used to "big" and busy roads does this seem a sensible idea or would I be better off taking some B roads? Also, for anyone who's familiar with this route, is there anything in particular I should be aware of?
All advice will be gratefully taken on board.
Thanks, Dave. |

Wave when you go past my house
The trip you explain is all pretty simple and suitable for a 125. Lancaster is a traffic nightmare of standing traffic, white vans unloading where they feel like, etc (I filter through whenever possible) but once you're through the one way system, you're clear until you hit Preston. Depending on the time of day, the centre can get very busy but usually flows. The A59 is a joy on a larger bike so just have your wits about you ready to be overtaken.
Most important, enjoy the ride |

Kids will be at home then but may be able to sneak out to ride along PM if you want a contact number. |
