Hey Guys,

I've got these black marks on the bars of my Fazer. They don't seem to rub off - any idea whats causing them (assumeit'll be a key rubbing?) and how I can clean it?

Cheers!

David

Parafin or, more aggressive, lighter fluid?

To clean it - you might not be able to... If you can feel the marks with a fingernail but they don't come off then they're scratches...

Stop it happening again by not having a jailer's keyring - just the bike key goes in the bike.

I use a keychoob, although I've modded mine by cutting it open, sewing a loop of string down the spine to attach a split ring to and velcro to close it back up. Within the choob is the key to my disc lock, and a small plastic tab with tyre pressures written on it.
Make your own with an scrap of neoprene if you have any.

The bars/Top Yoke is aluminiumumumum alloy painted silver colour.

The only way to get those 'abuse' Razz marks out is by using a cutting compound (course paint polish) and try to rub out the marks. It will take a microscopic layer of the paint off and any lacquer though.)

If impossibru to rub out they will need repainting if you want to 'Go Full-Anal' on them.

As said ^^^ you only need the key for the bike and just the key for the bike in there. Put the keys to your penthouse apartment/mum's house somewhere else.

Try a bit of solvent, like brake/clutch cleaner or maybe bug/tar remover or what he said.

I had a not dissimilar issue, bars were marked from handguards and gps mounting. Further cleaning / t-cutting just made the marks worse, so:

Get some masking tape and lots of newspaper. Cover everything except the affected area. Find an old half full can of silver spray paint (Ford Moondust silver) and give is a spray. Not too many coats, just enough to make it disappear. Once it's almost dry (because you're impatient) remove all the tape and newspaper. Stand back in surprise at what a good match the colour is and that it actually looks better rather than worse.

Cheers for your help guys!

I only have one key on with my bike so thought it'd be OK, I'll remove it now!

Will give it a good scrub tomorrow and if that doesnt work look at maybe trying to spray it...

It wouldn't even occurr to me to clean off marks like that. I have many hundreds of better things I could be doing with my time.

I suggest you ignore them and go and do something more fun or usefull instead.
