I bought a morad rim a while ago to build on my honda cr hub unlaced it from a klr hub, now I'll finally got round to building it what the problem is.. I've laced it up and the spokes are resting/bending up one another even without the nipples on.

I've been told the rim holes have been drilled out for a wider hub? I didn't think nothing of this I thought the holes in the rim would be a standard sort of thing and made sure I got a 36 hole rim

Is there anything I could do to rectify this problem? another spoke pattern? as you could not get this rim anywhere!

I assume you're doing a standard three-cross pattern?

You are remembering to alternate which side the spoke goes through the hub?

I'm not entirely clear what you mean there. Do you mean the spokes are touching one another where they cross?

On a bicycle wheel (of which I've built a few, only ever done one motorcycle wheel), this would certainly not be an issue, they always touch slightly, just bend them round each other. Some lacing patterns even take the spokes a full turn or more round one another. (such as this snowflake wheel)

In any case, the way they sit with everything loose bears little resemblance to how they sit when tensioned up a little. You'll probably need to bend the hub end of the spokes a little so they are snug against the edge of the hub flange after putting a little tension into them.

When I do bicycle wheels, I also bend the spokes round one another slightly where they cross using Sheldon Browns technique. You do this after the initial tensioning. This also stress-relieves the wheel and it'll all land up out of true again after.

Hi one spoke crossers over two times, which I think is 2 cross pattern? and yes where they cross they are up against eachother making them bend

I have done some pictures

I must admit the spokes here are a little bit buggered I was using them as a reference, where they bend at the hub end I had to bend them back slightly to match the rest of them

I asked a wheel builder and he said the rim holes are drilled wrong for my hub

I'd probably just start tensioning it up and see how it looks then.

I'm not an expert wheel builder by any degree but the thought of the spokes bending round one another doesn't particularly worry me.

I'd be more concerned about how well the nipples seat in the rim

I think I've done it now, after those pictures I took I somewhat laced it up a different way inner and outer spokes and its much better the spokes are all loose and even though those spokes are useless about an inch too long and can't be tighten up

NOW.. I got to find out the actually spoke length I need, and haven't got a clue about that! Surprised

I've used this (and similar) for pushbike and motorbike wheels and it's always been good - ymmv.
