Hi, could anyone tell me if the starter clutch on a Kawasaki GT550 G4 can be replaced without removing the engine and splitting it, please?
Many thanks,
Alan

starter clutch, if its the same as the gt750p5, then yes it can be done without removing or splitting the engine right down, its a bit involved however...........

from memory, exhausts and sump off.......clutch cover off, and i think the clutch basket has to come off also, then the shaft with the starter clucth and cush for primary drive chain............

you know of cmsnl for the exploded views??

the starter clutch is an FFFFFF expensive unit.........does your starter motor always spin and sometimes seems to catch and actually start the bike, then other times it just spinns with out rotating the engine??

how is your fuel tap, lets in fuel when its not supposed to, fills a cyl with pertol which then buggers the starter clutch ( and con rod etc )???

Yep its a pain,
I used to do this for myself and my dr mates, i wouldremove the exhaust turn the bike upside down and take the sump off
the only way then was to remove a layshaft(cant think which-long time ago)

the only other way is split the engine
