My Pinlock got all hot and bothered yesterday morning in the cold and humid rush hour.
I knew the problem was the way I had fitted the insert to my new visor and that moisture had migrated under the silicone seal and was now condensing on the cold inside surface of the visor.

I punched Pinlock into my Internet terminal/Human Interface Device and got the Dutch company's web page with all stuff about fitting and fixing them.

No mystique.

https://www.pinlock.nl/motor/company/

Enjoy.

I would go as far to say probably 90% of pinlocks fogging up are down to fitting error..

And the other 10% need taking off and a good clean Razz

On particularly cold and wet days, mine will develop a small patch of fog near my nose, then gradually creep up the side. It's not in front of me, but annoying when looking to the side at the mirrors or whatnot. This happens only when I'm moving slowly and goes away quickly if I pick up speed or flip up the visor for a few minutes.

Does this sound right or do I not have them installed correctly?

I'm always paranoid about bending (the usually brand new) visor when I'm putting the pinlock on. I probably don't flatten it enough. I've had a visor warp on me and that was very obviously not working. There was a visible gap between the pinlock and visor and even on slightly wet days the visor would fog right up.

definitely needs to be sealed all the way round no gaps dirt even deep scratches will stop the seal.

I get a little thumb size mist right at the bottom other than that its really good.

The best thing to do with Pinlock's is to fit them - and never take them out.

They eventually become weak and dont seal how they should. The more you take them out and re-fit them, the faster this happens.

A new pinlock fitted correctly to a clean visor should last for a year without misting.

This too.

The thing with pinlock insert that lots don't know is that the insert is by design 'moisture absorbent'.
Sooooo... if you wet it and then fit it the surface will already be 'saturated' so the absorbent quality is negated and any moisture in the 'trapped' air between the visor and insert can condense on the visor.
So if you do get it wet, dry it or leave it somewhere dry before fitting.
This is what I have found over the years using them.

Mine misted up a little around the edges for the first time yesterday. The weather was particularly bad though, with high winds and torrential rain.

Also, has anyone else had cracks develop on their visor around the pins? I have on my Shark lid, so it's not like its a cheap one.

The pins in the visor only allow you to fit the insert correctly one way.

They are contoured to accept the insert, so if you find your insert fogging up due to a poor seal, try turning the pins and make sure they are correctly aligned. Fixed mine in my old lid Thumbs Up

Hmm... I recently bought a Shoei XR-1100 which came with a Pinlock thing that the guy in the shop fitted for me.

It's been rubbish, the first time I wore the helmet in the cold it started to mist and now a couple of weeks in it's got to the point that I was going to bin the insert and start using the visor spray stuff again.

However having read this thread it appears I'm in a minority so maybe if I clean and refit it then it might work properly?

My pinlock has started misting a bit on the sort of days you would expect it to but tbh I just pop the visor up a couple of mm and let airflow do its thing. Meh.

YOU ABSOLUTE STAR MAN, LEGEND IN YOUR OWN LUNCHTIME.

I just thought my Pinlock had warped or something as it was not sitting correctly on my visor.

From the link you posted I see that I am being a total Beaker and had not set the pins on the visor correctly (did not know they were adjustable).

Result, no more fogging, no more cold nose, no more squinting.

Cheers matey, have a virtual pint on me Clapping
