hi guys

i have brought my wife a lexmoto valencia 125. i have also brought a video recorder for the front of her bike to catch any muppet drivers hat show bikers no respect.

now my issue is my wife forgets everything so i cant have the camera wired to the battery as she will forget to turn it off and by the time she has finished work she will have a flat battery,

can you tell me what wires should i connect the cigarette lighter to so it is only live when the bike is running

Hi mate you will need to wire it to a relay and then you can wire it to your ignition can give a better explanation if you don't understand

You wire a relay so you do not overload the bike's wiring.

A relay is an automatic switch. It turns on via a small current when you turn on the ignition. This switches the current directly to the attached device(s) (wired from bike's battery).

Stinkwheel on here did a definitive guide to wiring a relay into bike electrics. See here How to wire in an electrical device using a relay. (click on text link).

For the camera you need to check
(a) it has auto start on power on
(b) it has record loop facility (so overwrites earliest footage when card full).
(c) power connections are waterproof (although silicon gunk may be your friend here).

There has been recent threads on cameras on here if you want to use the search (see top right of page).
