 |
|
Morning Guys and Gal's...
This is my first post. I'd give you all the blurb on who I am, but I've been on here before - I just forgot my login details and don't use the other email address any more so meh!
Anyways, here's the deal;
In August 2014, a group of riders from the Ratticus 125 Rally Club are riding from Nottingham - LE - JOG - Nottingham to raise funds for NABD { https://www.NABD.org.uk } and the Wheelbase Motor Project { [url]www.wheelbase.org.uk[/url }. (Each rider also has the opportunity to split their sponsorship equally between the two aforementioned charities, and one of their own choice.)
This is a total journey of around 2000 miles, and we mad buggers are doing it on 125's!
We've already organised out-riders and some of the support team, and the route has been (well) planned;
Day 1 - Nottingham-LE-Avebury
We'll be leaving Nottingham in the early morning (around 5am so it warms up as we ride) and making the 366 mile journey to LE (routeplanner reckons almost 8 hours, so we reckon 10). Then back up to Avebury via Yeovil, Sherborne, Wincanton and the A303 (my family live in Yeovil so it makes sense for bikers to descend on bikers for coffee!!) We're planning on stopping around Avebury for the evening (we reckon it'll take another 5 hours or so to get there)
Day 2 - Avebury-JoG
A Hell of a ride! We've already covered about 600 miles and we've got even more to go today! Only another 709 of them to go! We guess about 17 hours riding time :/
Day 3 - a bit easier today; only 569miles back to nottingham!(anout 14 hours if yer interested!
We know what we've bitten off, and we're pretty organised - for instance we are going to service our bikes on the second evening (well, have them serviced by the support team)
If anyone's interested in following how we're doing, or sponsoring any of us, please feel free to check out the page @: https://www.lbbr.tk
It's also on the Ratticus 125 Rally Club website at https://www.ratticusrc.tk
If you guys can think of anything that could help us out, I'd love to hear it! Cheers
Lurch

So you're going to do something you want to do and like doing (as in riding bikes) and want people to effectively pay you for doing it?
Plus you're not really pushing the boundaries there are you?*
It's all a bit Ewan and Charley with full support team isn't it?**
I'd be happy to donate to NABD (I know nothing of the other one) but then I would anyhow without feeling chugged into it.
BTW sounds to me like that mileage counts as a normal work job for the likes of Marmalade
Best of luck on your jolly
* Google maps tells me it can be done in just over 20 hours avoiding motorways (see options, avoid highways and tolls). So inside 24 would be hard but achievable. However, I understand if your mommies will not let you stay out late past your bedtime.
** why not do it on BMW GS bikes and get full coverage in RiDE magazine. See the Farewell to Ride magazine thread for the joke and irony in that comment ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...
Gibbs, what did Duckie look like when he was younger?

Outriders? Support crew? Nearly a year of planning? For tooling around the UK in summer?

It's not remotely interesting, and if you find going for a jolly challenging, well, super for you, but what's that to me?
I quite like NABD, but I don't see any connection between you spunking £££s on fuel and expenses having a laugh, and me putting my hand in my pocket.

Have been discussing going here on a 125 tour during winter. Same deal as before, top box w/clothes, a litre of oil and a few tools.
I'm somewhat dissapointed by your lack of ambition.
Edit;
I see how it is now...

That's great for you lot, and what difference does it make if we enjoy doing it?
The challenge is that for half of these guys, its their first major rides. And as for the not getting the saddlesore - the ride nearly does it twice technically. 1000 Miles in 24hours on a 125 is more of a challenge then I expect you all imagine.
I'm disappointed to know that these are the kind of "bikers" that are in the world today. Back when I was younger I woulda supported new riders in this adventure of theres. Now, I'm taking part in it.
The reason for the outriders, support and abundance of planning, is that we'd rather not be sat at the side of the road with someone who's having issues with their bike.
Don't worry though, I shan't be posting on here again - y'all seem to be dicks in my opinion, so you'll be glad to hear; I shall le jog on |
