Hy guys,

I'm a new biker and also new around here.

I have a problem with my gilera runner 50 cc (from 1998).
In the mornings/late night when it's pretty cold I can't start it... The electric ignition doesn't even try to start, no sound what so ever, and the kicker doesn't always work. For example, today I was around 15 mins on the kicker and couldn't start it...
Is it normal to have this much trouble to start when it's cold? (Around 6ÂșC)

Thank you guys

Sight unseen, I'd suspect that your battery isn't holding a charge.

#1 Do any of the electrics work with the engine not running?

#2 Have you tested it with a volt/multimeter?

#3 Have you put it on a charger?

#4 Have you checked and topped up the electrolyte levels in the cells?

I'll assume that's:

#1 Yes

#2 No

#3 No

#4 No

Can you guess what you should do next?

its okies bl1nk

i understand ya haha

replace ur spark plug. take battery out and put it on a charger in ur house/flat overnight

make sure u got a tank full of fresh petrol

try again with above and see how you get on.

cold weather makes the engine harder for the starter motor to turn. it can also make it harder for the fuel mixture to ignite inside the engine making it harder to get it started.

you need a good strong battery - if u got access to electric where the scooter is parked id recommend u get a battery maintenance type charger like an optimate to keep your battery at peak performance.

I agree with checking the condition of the spark plug, but how would a fouled plug stop the starter from spinning the engine?

Randomly replacing bits is an expensive alternative to diagnosing the problem.
