Finally got employment so I'm going to be looking for a new bike while I start saving...

Can't decide what I want though!

Sports 600's seem to be around £1300 a year to insure, except for the gsxr600 which is around £800.

Bandit 600 renewal is £376.92 and the Bandit 1200 is only a penny more a year so that could be another option Laughing

I can insure pretty much any naked 1000 for a grand or less.

Insurance budget is around £1300, not fussed if it is 1300 aslong as the bikes a decent so that I feel it's worth the money!

Ideally I want a sports 600, but I wouldn't mind something like a street/speed triple R.

Preferably want something over 100bhp as the bandit is putting out 82bhp atm and it just doesn't seem enough Laughing

Fire away guys! Cool

Your insurance quotes seem really high to me, have you done all the usual comparison sites and the like Neutral

For my 05 ZX6 [and similar for other 05-07 600s] I was quoted around 900-1000 fully comp at 20 years old, having just passed my full license, ended up going TPFT which was around 750.

Subsequently each has dropped about 200 quid every year since then.

What sort of bike budget did you have in mind

Given that they produced less than that when new, and it's fifteen years old now, I'm curious as to how this can be the case. If it's been significantly modded, surely doing more to it would be more satisfying than just chopping it in?

Would be interested in track days Smile Just not allowed at most of the local tracks (Oulton Park etc) due to being on the 33bhp licence...although I don't want that affecting the bike choice Wink

I like ragging the bike basically, prefer IL4 over V twin unless it's something like an SP2 or RSVR Laughing I'd have a tuono but I can't get quotes on one!

My quotes are high due to having points and living in a shit hole (BB postcode, ranked E* or something like that!)

Bike budget, I'm not really fussed as most don't seem to go over £200 a month on finance anyway which is probably what I'll be doing Smile

I do love the old fireblades but I can't seem to get quotes on them! Sad

The tracks actually a go karting track, 3 sisters, they do a charity bike trackday on the 2nd tuesday of every month though. Not a fast track but is a good laugh for a tenner for 10 laps Smile

This, or any big naked.

I have a CB1300 naked; cheap to insure, pisses all over 600's, keeps up with sports 1000's, 114bhp (an acclaimed extra 5bhp with an after market zorst), hella comfy, but most of all....seriously fun when you want it.

I've got a ZZR600 on restrictors from Kickstart engineering on e-bay

Runs quite happily, if you keep the revs up when you're trying to build speed it's happy.

Insurance was about £500 for someone with one years no claims who'd only done test half a year previously.

Chalky, I do like the look of the cb1300 and I've heard it's a torque monster which I like the sound of! Insurance is unbelievably cheap so it may be a possibilty!

Black Sheep, restrictors aren't really an issue. I have some for the bandit from kickstart. But they don't seem to be very effective on my bedside table Laughing

It really is - it pulls like a train with little effort.

It also sounds pretty good with the right exhaust (and baffle removed of course..).

I have 6 points aswell Laughing

Without, the bandit is £190 to renew!

Blackburns bad for insurance though due to a lot of asians doing "crash for cash" in the past...

Chalky, is it thrashable though or just straight up easy power? I like to rev things Twisted Evil I enjoy being a nob and doing wheelies whenever I get the opportunity aswell

Yes you can thrash it; back end slides and lifting the front (even two up) are no issue.

Don't get me wrong, it's no Tuono - or similar frenetic big nakeds, but it's a lot of bike for the money when you utilise it's versatility.

Saving up the cash to buy the bike and the insurance is always a good idea 1st
Not to mention sticking the job out long enough & not getting the sack before you`ve accumulated said money is always a good idea too, as you`ve got several winter months to save & ponder your possible choices of bike. .
Getting sacked within weeks of starting work & having accumulated debts to pay for the new bike is never a good idea.

Personally I`d see how I liked the job, settle in, & spend the 1st weeks wages on beer & whores (lap dancers) then over the winter save the cash for the bike Thumbs Up

If you're on a 33hp license and you've got 6 points, does that mean you've had your license revoked? Also assume you won't be running it restricted if you're looking to upgrade from a bandit 600 as it's not enough? :p

Got them all on provisional, behaved myself since I got my full licence (apart from an S59 that I got for something trivial!)

Of course the bandits restricted, the new bikes just for the looks Wink Twisted Evil

Might look into it chalky as insurance is really cheap for what it is! Strange how cheap the Bking is aswell...

Pierre, it may be a few month yet anyway as I'd most likely be doing finance and I don't think they allow you to do anything until you've been in a job for atleast 3 months. Getting sacked isn't really an issue as it's pretty easy work and I aint a slacker, plus I'm well in with the supervisor Laughing

I'd go naked given that:
1, your on a Bandit now.
2, £1300 would be too salty for me to pay to ride a 600cc sports bike, which won't be as comfy or lazy as id like.

I'd say look a decent modern naked's like the FZ1/FZ8 Z1000, etc. But the Triumph 675 could probably do everything you want as well as the bigger and heavier bikes can.

Guessing a late Hornet or FZ6 would not have a big enough fire in the engine room for you? Decent bikes though in my opinion.

There's few big Nakeds that have everything, but if say a Hornet or FZ6/8 or street triple does not float your boat I'd look at way out of field stuff like the BMW K1300R or B-king, or older stuff like ZRX11/1200's or a Fazer 1000 etc.

I was tempted by the street triple but I am tempted by a full on sports bike. Like you say though it's the insurance and a Bking would probably have the same performance as a fully faired sports 600 due to it's power anyway Laughing

It's tempting aswell due to how low the insurance is! I do think they are ugly but in a big muscular sort of way? New cans would be the first thing I'd change anyway as I hate the originals!

I've got a while to thing it through anyway! My mate has the daytona and he says it is brilliant plus his 100+mph wheelies sort of sell the bike to me even though most bikes of similar power could do it I guess.

Hornets and Fazers are a bit low in the power department really. I want a bit of a jump again. I loved the feeling going from the 125 to the 600 when you open it up for the first time and hold on for your life!

Insurance on a 2009 Tuono is cheaper for me by around £50 than the CB1300 for some reason. I think I may be on to a winner! Laughing

Hi

Afraid for me getting a £1300 quote would put me off going anywhere near a sports 600. But your quote for the 1200 Bandit would be tempting.

All the best

Just going to play it by year. £1300 doesn't really seem that expensive though, especially compared to what my mates are paying on their cars, what quotes I'm getting on cars and also the fact I'd be 20 year old with such a quick machine Laughing

I do think a big naked is looking favourite though!
