Sticky indicator switch?

Hi all,

I have a problem which has been getting progressively worse. When I switch the left indicator on it takes several seconds to actually come on. It does this a little bit on the right too.

I'm guessing that the switch may be filthy and I need to get the switch cowling off and give it a clean. Thought I would post here first to see if any of you know whether that is really the issue or not? Can't say I relish the job as it's bound to be annoyingly fiddly...

Your wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Take it apart, use WD40 to clean all parts that should move, inside of the switch.

Be careful when you take it apart, they usually have a small, loaded spring with tiny ball bearing. They're a bit fiddly to clean up, best to take it off the bike and do it over a tray or something under a good light. If you can, take a photo of it before, and part way through stripping.

The original grease goes off over age and becomes sticky. Best removed with some contact cleaner...I don't like WD40 myself, I used it for years but I suspect it goes off too. GT85 is good stuff, at the moment I'm using Motul Contact Cleaner but anything that evaporates and breaks down grease is good to clean it up.

Spray some decent switch cleaner (Servisol or similar) in through the slot and work the switch back and forth. Repeat this a few times - you may just get lucky and not have to dismantle anything.
