Evening all

im currently refurbing a ybr125 for the missus and have a small question regarding the headlight.

The bike's headlight automatically comes on (as per design) when the power is switched on but the high beam wont switch until the engine is running.

Im unsure if this is supposed to happen or not. Suspect that the high beam should work regardless of the engine running or not and suspect it may also be an MOT failure? Looking at the wiring diagram in the haynes manual then the engine running should have no influence on the lights

any help or insight greatly appreciated, thanks

In the diagram I looked at, the engine running does have a say in whether the headlight works or not.

May have it ass backwards but to me, the running/side light comes on with ignition and the headlamp main and dip beam are fed by a single blue/black wire from the headlamp relay.
so, all other things being equal,
if one works so should the other.

This relay looks to be actuated by the CDI so I'll guess it only allows power to the headlamp when the motor is running.
Otherwise why have it there?

Is it possible you've confused the running light with the dip beam?
Maybe I'm looking at it wrong or at the wrong diagram so if I'm talking bollocks will deny everything Laughing

Heres the diagram I found.

Yeah i had just coming to that conclusion myself. The side light threw me as it is easily as bright as the low beam, plus im
used to conventional switches on my other bikes

thanks again and thanks for the diagram, its easier to see than the haynes one.

according to the diagram above it shouldnt make a difference, both low and high beams are fed the same way,

not to say that diagram is right of course

What year is the bike? Wiring is different on newer ones and fuel injection bikes. I have a '08 YBR 125 ED (FI) and on mine the headlight high beam only switches on when the engine is running, presumably so you don't drain the battery.
