I did a quick search and it's says that I need to pay £1? but it says I can park in a q-park for free, whats a q-park? Am I actually likely to find a space turning up at 11am ish anywhere near Oxford Street? Where postcode? Smile
I don't mind paying the pound but would rather do it beforehand then faffing around with a phone and credit card when I park my bike.

Buggered if I'd park anywhere near that thief infested area. I'd park in Whites Row car park (free limitless bike spaces) and get on the tube at Aldgate East and sod the few quid for the travelcard, at least there's a good chance the bike will still be there when you get back.

Q park is free

Go down Oxford street, turn onto great portland street, then turn down the first (or second) left. Might me called Mortimer street, I can't remember. You soon reach a square. It's behind John Lewis. Go around the square, into the inside of it (it will make sense when you see it, it's a bit like a spiral), and you find the entrance to q-park. Approach the gate and it will open for you. Once inside, turn [CORRECTION - TURN RIGHT, my bad], and voila, free and safe bike parking.

There is always space. I was there on the 20th of December at 6pm and there was space.

Is it really that bad? my bikes 18 years old and has scratches, cracks and dents on every panel and I'll take a big chain with me. I'd have thought it would only appeal to a young joy rider rather then a professional bike napper.
I can get a coach for about the same as it would cost to use the bike, it would just take almost twice as long as I'd need to use other forms of public transport at either end.

It's the richest shopping area in the UK, a thieves magnet, personality I wouldn't take the chance. At Whites Row you can chain the bike to a railing and they have 24/7 guards.

Just use the carpark behind John Lewis or pay a quid. I parked my Bandit daily on the rank 100yds down the road from there on Henrietta Place for the most of last year and it never got touched.

White's Row is closer to my house than it is to Oxford Street Rolling Eyes

There are a lot of places you can park further that you can get a chain around something too. But depending on how close to the centre of things you are, the more likely the spots will be filled up. It can be easier to park in somewhere like Camden - free and many bays have anchors for attaching chains - and walk. Oxford Street is about 20 minutes stroll from Lincoln's Inn Fields for example.
