Ok, So here's the situation.

I've been with Bennetts since I got my first bike, CBF125 the renewal is in July. I renewed then for my CBF and then in August got myself the NC700. I phoned Bennetts and got a quote - I did record the call but for some reason when I play back the recording I only get my side of the conversation. I'm pretty sure that they said it would cost me around 13 quid a month - they claim is was 30.

My view seems to be borne out in the documents they've sent me and creating a quote on the Bennetts site gives me a price £132.17 / year.

My policy documents tell me that I should be paying 13.36 for 12 months on my new bike.

Quote:

You will have to pay the following:
£13.36 for 12 months. Interest and/or charges will be payable in the following manner: A credit charge £42.79

They have been taking £30 from my account since August. So instead of paying £67ish I'e paid £152ish

I've phoned them up and they say they've listened to the recordings and the amount was £30 (27.somehting plus about 3 quid for accident legal cover). The have offered me the chance to cancel the existing policy with no cancellation fee and I could start a new one at the price I got with the quote I did today.

I have a number of concerns.

1) Since I originally paid the insurance for my CBF via instalments I would assume that the finance on that would still be outstanding.

I suspect that they're offering to cancel the old policy, I would have to pay off the outstanding amount and then they could start a new policy for me at the new quote price - essentially meaning the loss of a years NCB plus a shitload of more money.

Where do I stand, can I get a copy of the recordings? What to do?

Do you have the history from any web-quotes? You have searched before you paid up didn't you.... Crying or Very sad Embarassed

I had a bit od hassle with Hastings this year for two old bikes.
But after a bit of running around (on the phone) it was sorted out.

When dealing with these cnuts it is VITAL that you have evidence to back up wot was wot.

Your insurance can't have increased sooo much that your payments have doubled unless you have lost all your NCD or you have moved house to Scrotesville, or have serious points Drunk driving or Careless etc.

You can appeal I have found Bennetts very easy to deal with and have been with them for years.

Subject Access Request, might cost you £10. If they're particularly devious, they could provide only your side of the conversation.

I'm surprised that there's nothing in writing or by email. This is exactly why I avoid telephones for any commercial purpose whenever possible. Sad

If your policy says you should be paying £13.36 then there should be no quibbles. Forward/record post your policy documents to them as evidence.

Just be aware that often when you now call companies it says calls "may be recorded for training purposes".
This means they may/do not keep copies. Only system notes.

But Op should have something in writing as this is a credit agreement.
CCA75 could be his friend here as there has to be written proof of this agreement including the payment schedule.

If bennetts will not play ball on refunding. Then follow the complaint procedure.

OP. DO NOT CANCEL the policy or stop payments. Let it run on.
If Bennetts are unable to resolve in 8 weeks you can go to the FCA. This will cost them £750 no matter what.

OP. Did you take out breakdown cover or any other extras?

In reality it should have come down. I've been quoted £132.17 for fully comp on this bike - from Bennetts.

I used a call recording app on my phone which has always worked before. It seems they updated it and it broke it and now I only get my side of the conversation. A bit annoying really since I deliberately called Bennetts using it because, well, insurance companies..

I have the pre-contract credit information - this tells me that it's 12 months at £13.36 with the credit charge.

Will have a go at this - see where it gets me...

:O did not know this. Perhaps it's enough to tempt them to behave?

Consider, they are brokers, the policy you had and have now transferred onto would not have been appropriate for the bike you have now, it was only appropriate for the bike you had then. It will always be more expensive to change your current policy (not even considering any admin fees), than re-quoting for a new one on the spot, specifically as you've come from a 125. 125 policies are particularly bad, an underwriter I had, wouldn't insure me moving from a 125 to a larger bike. Full re-quote with same broker and I had a policy not much more than the 125.

However, if they've advised you a price, they can't then change it suit them.

No doubt people have had better experience with Bennetts than me, but I would never touch them with a bargepole...
Biggest insurer in the UK(?) for motorcycles. Me with license for over 10 years. 2003 R6 insured with them and several years NCD. Sell R6, buy 2006 R1....''sorry, we cant insure you'' wtf!! No points, convictions, good postcode etc. Cost a fortune to cancel mid term policy and change insurer. That was five years ago. Will never use them again!

If you smell of wee (or of Ste's mum) then why would they want to touch you either? Rolling Eyes

Very Happy

Bennetts are not a Insurance company...... They are a broker. A major difference.

If non of the underwriters they use are prepared to insure you on a bike what are they supposed to do?
