Manual says 900ml but i found that didn't quite hit the minimum level for some reason.

I tend to put 1L in.

The filler cap is the level or there will be a sight glass.

Almost every animal that takes oil has a level mark. Shocked

If there is a stick on the fill plug stand the bike vertical (both wheels on the ground (or on the centre/paddock stand)
Fill with oil.
Stick cap/stick in fill hole but don't screw in.
Pull out and look for highest oil mark. It should be on the top mark and not under the lower mark.
Fill (in little cup fulls) to the top mark and run.
Then recheck and top up to top mark.

Just put the recommended 1.1L in at first, run the engine over and warm it up a little. Make sure it's on it's centre stand on a level surface, once the engine is just warm (1-2 mins should be) turn it off and let the oil settle for another minute or so, then check the oil level again. Add more if it's not on the max mark on the dipstick.

You don't normally check oil when it is warm.

Oil has to be checked BEFORE starting the engine so the levels are set for a COLD engine. The expansion involved is enough to mean the oil will be near the low level with cold oil if you set the level with a warm engine.

Some engines have a 'Running' level. Either Cold or Hot or both.

This is to allow the level to be monitored without shutting off the engine. Normally on static engines providing constant power.

But those engine are filled with oil to the cold level engine stopped then run up and checked to cold level engine running.

I'm just going on the recommendations from the Haynes manuals. It recommends having the engine warmed up a little, then left to cool for a couple of minutes before checking the oil, in both the manual for the CBF 125 and the one for the Yamaha YBR 125.

I'd just check it before starting. Only a turnip would say "i'll check the oil, but first, ima start my engine which may or may not have oil in it" Wink
