had the same problem on me R1, put key in refuses to un lock, turn or even move, no amount of wd-40 ,engine oil or silicone spray helped.
stripped down the lock assembly,
they had worn inside where the key pushes against them as its inserted. so they did not retract enough to allow the lock to operate.
Ground down the tumblers which were sticking out of the lock barrel,
you can see the key in the barrel in jpg.
re assembled with grease works fine now.

Fixed. Not sure I can be arsed to upload the video I made but it was easier than easy.
However I do not understand how it became "fixed".
After drilling the lock unit from the top yoke, I started to drill one of the bottom security screws, then noticed the normal screws on top This removed the cover and revealed the lock shaft is one peice with a cam and a plastic lobe that pushes the steering lock out.
I tried the key once and it was still jammed, second time, it became perfectly free and fixed
Also noted that without the cover, the lock barrel and shaft/cam pulls out easily with the key in the off position. Locks are awesome and simple.
There was not a single loose part, not even one part flew off and hit me in the nose. I was quite disapointed in this, having seen Copycat73's picture (note: I will not be buying a R1, or any yam for that matter) |
