Did you wear all the army combat gear? Why do fishermen wear combat gear?

I'd just read Eddie's thread about getting smashed and shagging his mate's sister.

Was expecting "So I got crabs" to be in a similar vein.

I used to catch crabs with bacon fat and a bit of string, happy days.

Can they sting? I know they can give you a nasty prick, much like perch and ruffes can, but I though the only venomous fish off our shores is the weaver.

Either way, nice little report and I'm very jealous. I love pier/beach casting, but ever had anything as interesting as the sea scorpions.

The British record for a short spined sea-scorpion is 2lb 7oz.

That was a speciment fish and would probably have won you an angling contest.

They are no venomous, the spines are sharp but nothing more so you were dancing about like a fairy for no good reason.

The only venomous fish I'm aware of in UK waters is the weaver and they can be fucking nasty. They have a trianglular black dorsal fin with three poison spines. People die of weaver stings. If you pull in a weaver, cut the line.

That's in the US. Warmer waters seem to have more venomous beasties.

I've caught many a brown crab but I always steered clear of that type as they are an aggressive fooker. I don't think I've seen one that size before.

Anyway, you get a cool rating for the scorpion fish.
