I could hear a clunking noise from my chain when I went for a ride.
I went to adjust it but found it to be very slack at one point but also tight at others.
Can I assume that being such extremes the chain is knackered and needs replacing, as I adjusted the slack but the chain is now so tight it resctricts the wheel movement, but If I loosen it the slack will hit the bike
Or is something else wrong do you think?

Ideal world = replace chain

You can get a bit more life out of it by working the stiff links until they move nicely, pliers are good for this but at times I have resorted to encouraging movement with a hammer. This is easiest done off the bike so you can soak it well in oil before starting to free up each link. You won't get a lot of extra life if you've got a machine that eats chains for a pastime (like my Zed Sad )

Hope you ordered a pair of sprockets to go with the chain you ordered, or you may find the new chain not lasting too long. The teeth on the sprockets are probably knackered as well if the description of the chain was anything to go by

I think that Hornet doesn't have a wheel driven speedo?

If it doesn't your +2 on the back will make your speedo over read by about 5%.

Oh will it, I never knew that So if it says 50mph i will only be going 45mph etc.
I just hope its worth it because without fuel injection it does seems a bit gutless until you reach 5k + over that and its white knuckle time lol. Ideal for beginners that though
