Found some ice, ice won. Usual damage, indicators gone, mirror gone, bodywork scuffed. Wouldn't have been to bad except for this:

According to this its a generator cover. However, all the oil in the bike pissed out of this hole before I was even on my feet. I thought generators would be separate to the oil system.

Full disclosure, I haven't been able to do anything with the bike beyond push it home yet, so its possible that the oil came from somewhere else, but I can't see any other (significant) damage.

Bike is a Kawasaki zx6r f3 (97)

So, my questions then:
What are dis?
If it is the generator cover, why did all the oil come out of it?
Can I replace it with a used one?
If so, does it require stripping the engine down?
Is it likely to have done despicable things to my engines insides? i.e. even if I can, should I replace it, or should I go straight to the new engine option?

Yes it's the generator cover and yes there is oil behind it. Buy a second hand cover off eBay. Fit new cover with a new gasket, change the oil and ride it.

If the above post is correct and there shouldn't be oil in there, you may have ruptured/dislodged a hose somewhere.

Potentially, you should be able to replace the scrapy bits and carry one.

I did wonder why it had a gasket if there was no oil in there.

Is it a reasonably simple bolt off, bolt on thing, or do I need to do some kind of disassembly job on the engine?

ukguy - Yes, there's zip in the window. Didn't try starting it because of the lack of oil.

A. I have no clue whatsoever as to what " dis" appertains .

A. Yes; it is indeed the generator cover. The oil came out because the crash smashed a hole in it.

A. You could indeed replace it with a pre-used item.

A. It would require the damaged casing to be replaced along with the gasket. The stator will need to be transferred from inside the damaged casing to the replacement cover.

A. It would only have damaged the engine if allowed to run without sufficient oil for an extended period.A new engine will hardly be required.

There should be oil in there. FACT.

Buy a new Generator cover and gasket, take old one off, scrape old gasket off and rebuild, fill up with new oil and win

Perhaps think of investing in some crash bobbins

Why do people answer questions in the workshop when they don't have a clue?

For some reason I thought adding a modern youth pronunciation would be humorous. I'll blame the adrenaline in this instance.

Mushrooms or bobbins will not prevent this type of damage.
You require a more substaintial casing;

but even those are not infallible.
