My CCM DRZ engine's big end went, but overall I did like the bike.
I thought it had a DRZ engine initially - it's actually a BMW engine, see below.

Does seem like a true 'adventure' bike, rather than a bit-taller-tourer as so many are.

https://www.ccm-motorcycles.com/gp450.asp

I'd prefer a bigger engine, but if that weight is correct for the pictured bike (even dry rather than just no-fuel), that's pretty good and you'll be unlikely to match that with a circa-650cc engine I reckon.

Engine is apparently made by Kymco as used in the BMW 450, but detuned.
Some more (old) details. https://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=857243
Drooling more, now - electric preload adjustment!

Not that'd I've got £8 never mind £8k to spend, but I do like the idea.

Sadly, it's not massively heavy with a BMW badge, so likely won't sell well Rolling Eyes.

Hmm, was tempted to go and look until I saw that there is ONE UK dealer. And it's in Bolton.

Great marketing channels and support network Rolling Eyes

One of the useful things with CCMs is they tend to buy in the majority of bits from recognised manufacturers.

While I had a problem with my Acumen speedo on the CCM, when I popped down to Acumen for them to have a look, they were incredibly helpful and dedicated a couple of hours to trying to fix my broken speed, despite it being well out of any warranty etc.
(Ok, you won't get the same service from WP etc, I expect - but at least parts are available.)

Interesting concept, looks like they forgot to bolt a fuel tank on though.

Understand they probably fitted a tiny one to lower the wet weight, but still, range is key on a bike touted as a globetrotter.

17 litres is ample stock storage for this bike IMO.

Yea; while it's not so 'adventure' (bet they plan to offer bigger), 17l is probably at least 50% more usable capacity than your average dirt bike.

I actually like that. If I finish this PhD and get some money, I'll probably buy one ... if they're still around!

It looks like they designed the front fairing by getting a shovel and going "Look at that gorgeous shape. Lets make this transparent and bolt it on the front"

I'd prefer it if they'd routed the exhaust header differently. Could it get bashed? The seat looks a little thin for all day riding.

Would that silencer hinder any luggage?

That's the standard routing for a dirt bike. Rally/adventure bikes often have it routed underneath the bike, to avoid bigger fuel tanks I presume - seemed to cause more problems if anything.

2 stroke bikes tend to suffer from this and end up looking more like golf balls, but trimmer 4 stroke exhausts (which can also use stiffer metal due to the smaller diameter meaning weight is less of an issue) generally seem to be ok.

The seat looks pretty darn comfortable for a dirt bike Smile.
They've presumably kept it low for the shorter of stature. My KTM one was massively less comfortable as standard. I had it modified with extra gel inserts which made it taller. Ok when loaded up, but when not I'd be on one tip-toe pretty much!

There's lots of pictures of luggage on the bike soft and hard with racks available from CCM to fit. Exhaust position looks fairly similar to the 690, bar that having the petrol tank on the right and exhaust on the left.

It's just to put off all the Ewan and Thingy riders that buy bikes purely for the perception!

Again, not many mirrors in the South American Rain Forest to worry about.

But yes, it's not an ideal bike for Croydon high street!

If the CCM weight is to be believed, it's possibly around 20kg down on the KTM; for a dirt focus, that's probably better.
Top speed is certainly down at a claimed 90mph (I've hit 108mph on the GPS with luggage and a pillion on the KTM), so won't be so relaxed on the road.

On that, I still want a wider ratio gear box for my KTM so I can have an overdrive-top gear (ie geared for 125-130) without losing too much in first.

I remember on my 690 SMC it got to around 100 in fifth and on to an indicated 120 in 6th on standard gearing. My DRZ mate was always confused I still had an extra gear left as I overtook his DRZ going flat out in 5th (95 - 100 eventually). The bike was not struggling at all but I was with the wind. I have seen much more pimped out 690's for Dakar sort of stuff but I couldn't find the pics, the ones with panniers and extra fuel tanks etc.

I do love these rally styled enduro bikes, they are cool! My KLE is like one that eats pies all day and never takes care of itself. 50hp 180kg Very Happy

The last thing I would ever do is go touring abroad on a KTM 690 the electrics are a time bomb and would more than likely leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere in Romania or something Shocked

That CCM looks good but 40hp? Thumbs Down

You not have much luck with yours? Mine had electrical issues as well, FI light would come on and bike would go into limp mode. The FI in general was a bit iffy, the bike never really liked sitting at a constant speed and the throttle lacked feel, because well it's just a sensor talking to a computer which decides if your input is acceptable or not.

That is sexy. I bet they can't make it weigh less than 200kg wet though. Who's is it?

There's been loads of talk on the CCM 450GP on ADVrider. I like the idea that you plug in the power plug to get the full 54bhp. Of course it voids the warranty though, but it's a nice touch.

Whilst doing my Christmas shopping I noticed an article on it one of the usual magazines.

There's a link to the article at bottom of my blog post.

Interesting on the 'power plug'; makes sense as it's from a competition engine.

Next; can CCM do one with a TE610 engine? Seems the ideal choice with decent gear ratios (1:3.4 overall between bottom and top), a wide enough range of power and so on.

The 12 month warranty with mystery terms that just link to a sales brochure?

Small UK business? I'd expect it would be along the lines of "Sorry to hear that, mate, Dave Paperwork's in Magaluf but I'll ask him to get back to you two weeks on Tuesday, most likely, see if we can book you in to our workshop sometime in May or June, July at the latest. Or August. Our one workshop. In Bolton."

Having spoken to the thoroughly nice chap at the NEC I can confirm that they are in fact expanding their dealer network. The bike seems quite nice and from a glance it also seems well built. They have some nice bolt on features too.

For the money? Hell no. I'd buy something else until it's reliability is proven, but it might be worth a punt for somebody.
