Don't bother grinding it off, just weld new ones on top as needed. Whistle

To be honest, after your last display of nature, I will not offer any advice, neither good nor bad, you can simply learn to get on with it.

You are without doubt an idiot.

I am not and have had no issues so far this is just a check up for my own piece of mind.

How does it look? ... Will it be hard to grind off? I plan on welding another three or four on. Very Happy

I've been greasing the splines after the chain weekly wash.

Im sure it will be fine! At least until a weld gives way and the sprocket decides to snap the chain, probably giving you a nice scar on your left calf to remind you not to do it again.....

It's a good example of why even though you can use weld as a retainer, you should never actually weld a sprocket to a spline.

Not to mention an example of retarded chain maintenance.

Why? A brand new sprocket is like 15 pounds. Confused

But that's it - you didn't have to weld the sprocket on. You came very close to getting it right - you bolted the retainer to the sprocket, then welded the retainer to the shaft and the sprocket. What you could have done is bolted the retainer to the sprocket, welded the retainer to the shaft then removed the bolts. That would have left the sprocket secure on the spline but free to float as it should, and the welds would not all be torn apart.

I don't seem to believe anything - everyone can see that the retainer WAS welded to both the shaft and the sprocket. The reason the sprocket is now floating is because the welds/retainer have failed which is the reason you don't do it.

Was the retainer snapped before? or has that happened after, as Pete has said above because of the lack of float.

If you got a sprocket welded on because of a damaged retainer and not because of damaged splines like I thought it must have been, you are even more retarded than I expected.

How did you weld it anyway? As I remember, anything that's been lubed/soaked in oil long enough gets unweldable. Thumbs Up

It will weld but the contaminants will cause the weld to break, oh wait...
