Yeah all the gixxerjunkies sold up and bought S1000RRs. So all actual GSXRs are owned by commuters now.

I'm pretty sure N30 knew some of the folk from the site, maybe he or his friends might know.
Do report back with your findings if you find out why.

The whole closed forum thing really hurts the site, in my opinion if it was open like BCF then folk would be able to browse it and then be more likely to have a reason to register and join in on some of the topics. same goes with the for sale section, its pretty silly to only allow users that donate to view the for sale section which in turn limits the sellers audience.
Really no thought gone into at all.

like i said mate, they aren't doing the site any favours with it being viewable to registered members only. I'm guessing they never backed up the site regularly and restoring it is a problem.

OK, to correct a few misnomers and rumours seeing I was Admin on GJ.

No thought gone into it - nah, that's why we were one of the biggest one model sites in Europe with 6000 actively posting members.... Rolling Eyes

The sales section was never only visible to paid members. Any member could reply to posts or read posts in the sales area's.. It was only open to VIP members that paid a fiver to actually initiate posts in, but that was only introduced after we'd had several people who were ripped off by paying for stuff where the seller disappeared off the site.

By becoming a VIP member, we had more of a handle on them and the problem went away. It was always voluntary whether to become VIP or not, any money given went to the (quite substantial) upkeep of the site.

The site was closed to outside viewing to prevent scenario's like this one, where a Google search trawls up information that is posted in the site. We'd had a situation where one of our members had posted a libellous comment about a dealer which had not been spotted by mods or admin.

The site was facing a hefty law suit with myself and two other Admin as the named persons. I managed to sort the mess out with a fair degree of effort and negotiation with the injured party and after that I left the site closed to spambots and webcrawlers so it would not happen again. (see, there is that no thought thing going on again) Wink

I reasoned if anyone is at all interested in the site, then they would register (for free) - and around 6000 people did so....so maybe it wasn't all that wrong. Wink

The site was backed up regularly. I could have the site back up tomorrow - but the exploit that was used to hack into our server still exists, it is a flaw in vBulletin that anyone half decent at hacking can exploit again.

Our main IT guy has too much on his plate to put up a permanent solution to the problem so it stays on hold at the moment. I/we did not want 200 quid excess bandwidth bills every two weeks as was happening in November.

In addition to all that, the forum had been dying on it's feet for the last two years. It was a very close site at one time and we had some big meets, some great times and a good relationship with the motorcycle press, but all good things come to an end I guess, so I/we also question whether it is worth reviving it anyway.

A final decision has not yet been made on that.

If anyone needs more info - just ask me and I will give you the actuality of it, not myth, rumour or total bollox Smile

It started out on a free forum with maybe half a dozen lads that all had Gixers. Tink was the originator. I came on board a few weeks later Laughing

Yeah there are a lot of ways we could have gone with hindsight but Gixers were our roots. We stayed with that.

Over the period many of us chopped and changed bikes ( I have a 650 Kawasaki and a 675 Daytona at the moment), but that was where we'd come from so we ran with it.

On the site, there were sections for different bikes and all were welcome - but the url's that brought people in were the GJ.net, com and co.uk etc url's - so we stuck with 'em

Tink and I are really missing the site. We are exploring options but there are those hacking issues we have to sort before it can happen.

I never trawled for members on other sites. I would not start now - I only found this thread as a result of a Google search for something else and felt I should give the reality seeing we have few proper outlets to tell what happened Wink

This is a multi-race-shall site. Very Happy

Laughing - given I have had two Hinckley Triumphs and 3 Kawasaki's since owning my last GSXR - I don't believe I'd argue against that Very Happy

I'd like to think it'll live again Kate. As I said further up, Tink and I are trying to revive it. We both miss it like losing a limb Sad

Unless we can secure it though - we can't make it happen.

Agreed mate. We were waiting on Leon doing that but it doesn't seem to have happened. The GJ Facebook site is still up and running though. About 400 odd on there Wink

Fair question. Smile

Same reason I did not start another forum from scratch - because we have all the GJ database still intact on vBulletin. I am fairly web savvy, but I don't know if we can convert/transfer from vb to phpbb or any other format.

Something will happen, I just cant say exactly what or when at present. We need to get our heads together and see what options we have. Wink
