I can recommend Akito Miami boots.
I like them as I can actually walk around when off the bike ok.
I originally got them as I needed boots, it was summer and they were cheap and cheerful.
First pair lasted about 3 years and that included winter riding (you just need good thermal socks and insoles). Sole came away.
I liked them so much I got another pair at the NEC show (possibly J&S, I forget) and my daughter has a pair for on her scooter (but only for winter - go figure).
Next pair I'll probably get online depending on the price as I already know what size fits (hint: find a shop to try on first).

I wouldn't like to go that short - prefer a decent overlap between boot and trousers, so if I do end up sliding down the road there's a good bit of *stuff* to protect me trousers ride up a bit.
I'm thinking of a work colleague that was hit by a car while wearing jeans and trainers.
Neither of those themselves were a big factor in the lack of protection they offered to what they covered - basically his lower leg was dragged along the floor and he lost a couple of inches of bone.
Could just as easily have happened with short boots and bike trousers, but I don't reckon would have with longer boots.
I at least go for army-boot length. They are fine to walk around in (well, even the goretex ones are quite 'hard') and anecdotally I'd say they offer decent enough protection for daily riding - I've crashed in them a good number of times.
I've known people to be shelf-stacking in a supermarket day-in day-out in motorcycle race boots (then moan that they wore out quickly ) and I've done a good bit of walking (as well as some rock climbing!) in Tech 10s - but both situations are a bit stupid. In my case it was the only footwear I had. |

In the summer when I'm in kevlar jeans and a short jacket, I wear short boots.
All other times, I go long. I'm a bit biaised because when I was younger I rode like an idiot so crashed a lot. These days, I don't crash but still keep my protection habits from when I used to regularly bounce off the tarmac.
It's all about riding style, mileage and location. If someone rides it like they stole it, does serious mileage and weaves through London traffic like a ferret up a drainpipe, they'd have to be stupid to wear short boots.
For occasional summertime use, why not? ____________________ FZR400 (blown engine), ZXR750 (blown engine), ZX6R (accident), CBR600 which had engine issues after which I learned to change gear..., CBR900, CBR924 (stolen), CB600, CB1300 (everything blew up), BMW K1300GT (written off, hit from rear while stationary), Bandit 1250 for a couple of months, Triumph Sprint ST 1050 (nicked) and somewhere in there, I wrote off a Ducati 748 at Cadwell. |

(The cops that stopped me for tail light out/tax not showing on system were less impressed by my attire.)
I WAS actually wearing the boots, but only because I wear them 95% of the time I'm wearing footwear anyway . I'd as well wear trainers in such a situation. |
Back in the day, played club rugby in the S of France for a few seasons. Pre-season, the training pitches were like concrete due to 35 degree heat and for some sadistic reason, they put sand in the grass. Even with vass, tape etc..., somehow I'd always end up being sandpapered and waking up in the morning and trying to stretch out bloody, scabby legs was no fun.
Today, there is no way would I swap kevlar jeans for shorts. After 3 years of blood and pain, I've had enough.
But it's a personal thing - if someone wants to risk it, why not? We're all adults and take our own decisions on the level of risk we're happy with. H@ll, I know a gay guy who has unprotected but thinks a motorbike's too dangerous. Maybe I should point him in the way of a cruiser... |

I wear these along with a pair of long sealskinz socks to keep my feet warm and dry in winter. Comfy enough to walk around in all day if needed.
My current pair are almost 10yrs old and there's no reason they wont last a few more years, although the soles are getting a bit on the thin side. |
