I could probably google it but I wonder if any of you guys can put it into lay terms?

I plugged my PS4 into the router and got NAT3 which restricts what you can get through the network, like voice n stuff.

Wireless I got NAT2. I just reset the router and NAT2 came through the cable so I solved the problem BUT

WTF is a NAT and what do they do? Why can't I get NAT1? etc etc

NAT is Network Address Translation, it allows multiple 'devices' to use one IP. e.g. your home PC and PS3 can both use the internet through your router which only has one IP.

NAT 1, 2 & 3 seems to be a PS3 thing, it looks like if you get NAT3 you won't get full functionality like you said, NAT1 & 2 being what you want. Looks like NAT2 is where all the ports are forwarded to your PS3 correctly, and NAT1 is your PS3 connected directly to the net.

Either way, looks like NAT2 is good Thumbs Up

NAT Type 2 is fine, on COD I get NAT type Strict if my friend has his PS3 on at the same time.

It is a pain Laughing

Yeah it's just a silly thing really.

Surely, whenever you plug something like that into the internet, you just want it to connect to the internet not do stuff to restrict it n ting n ting?

silly internets

Just read that link. cheers!

Yeah, NAT 1 is straight from the modem to the PS3. NAT 2 is CORRECTLY running from a router to the PS3, and NAT 3 in INcorrectly running from a router to the PS3. The main thing that causes NAT 3 is not having the correct ports opened up on the router.

type 1 is when connecting the PS3 directly to the modem.
type 2 is when a router is used.
type 3 is when something is wrong. lol

That sums it up for anyone who may have the same question on here and can't be arsed googling like myself.

What type of router do you have?

You can adjust the NAT type on that.

Some even have specific gaming tabs on the router settings to adjust things.

Fixed it for me anyway.
