They are alright. Not a match for a modern 600 by any stretch. IIRC 75-80bhp, maybe has 16in wheels. Has a steel frame, odd riding position and seat shape. Not bad looking. For £800 with 12 months MOT it's probably OK.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

fast, powerful for the time, twitchy handling due to 16 inch wheels, well they handle well up to the edge and spit back

all the usual, exhaust downpipes rotting, back shock leaking, fork seals leaking, thin or warped discs, dragging brakes and top end rattle due to extremely high tickover on choke (4000 rpm not unusual) causing camshaft wear, on these the tanks rot through from the inside, make sure the water level stays constant and its not leaking coolant, has no water in the oil (head gasket) or is blowing white smoke other than condensation, which it will

can he prove the mileage?

First proper bike I had was a GPZ600R. Loved it to bits. Brakes have the anti dive thingy which doesn't work but needs maintenance anyway. The bearings on the swing arm/shocks need looking after too. Cam chain would probably need changing. Still, £800 isn't bad but don't expect it to be mint. Last GPZ I saw in great condition was going for upwards of £3000?

It's closer to a classic/harder to get parts for and maintain 600 now. Unless you like older bikes, or want a project or hate modern machinery with a passion, I wouldn't deliberately hunt down a 25year old bike for a new rider wanting to trade up.

the late 90's 600's like the CBR600, Thundercat, ZZR600, ZX6R are all pretty cheap these days and a grand would buy you something fairly nice, and say £1200-1300 a mint old bike that's a fair bit more modern, and has more easy spares availability and choice.

TL;DR a 95-99 ZX6R would probably be better and easier to live with/service and look after than a GPX600 semi classic.

I idealy would like somthing low milage and reliable for commuting to replace the cg or keep the cg and have something for weekend nice days. This is why i keep an eye out for an older low price bargain.
There is a SV there for 2K 05 plate 10k on it, but im not keen on there looks. I have seen a GPZ 94 plate on ebay but its out of my price range till i sell mine.

Well i like them. Had a problems with fuel pissing out the carbs, turned out to be sticky float valves. Replaced with new. Sorted. Thoroughly enjoyed owning it. Boadywork was a bit flimsy, kept snapping lugs.

having had one they really arent very good and £800 is alot for something with so many flaws:

16" wheels
funny seating position
anti dive that doesnt work
underpowered and heavy for a 600 (compared with other bikes you can get for your budget)
parts are hard to come buy where its so old and wasnt that popular to begin with
weird handling
terrible brakes

that being said they are pretty bullet proof and if you can get one cheap enough they make an ok winter hack / commuter weapon mine was £180 and cost another £100 to fix! But did the job it was needed to do. and despite being an odd seating position, it was a very low seat so if your a short ass thats a plus!

with a budget of £800 theres so much out there thats much better than a GPX Wink

Someone on here was getting a Cat C ZX6R-F model for £500.
That was a good deal. Based on that sort of thing, I wouldn't pay more than £300 for the GPX.

"They're ok", but are old, heavy, not that fast and handling and brakes lacking by modern standards.
These days most examples are going to be a tad tired - even low miles, stuff is likely to be deteriorating with age.

They tend to run pretty hot as does the gpz600r.

**I actually like the riding position on them, very relaxed and great for long distance Thumbs Up

i had one for my first dip into a sports, it was a love-hate relationship.

it was a bit of a moneypit for me, i paid £650 for the bike that looked good and for the first week ran fine.

my main problem with the bike was that the calipers constantly got gummed up, no matter how many times they were serviced, refurbished, pistons replaced or cleaned. along with some other issues (admittedly one or two things was due to me binning it), it cost me over £800 in under a year to keep on the road. in the end it was known to all my mates as the golddigger Sad

i loved the poke on it though, and the sound of it, but that was it really!

definitely not worth £800 though, hang tight and you will find something better mate Thumbs Up
