I know any posts pertaining to scandalous fees tend to get the same response of "pay up and deal with it" but...

I'm looking at changing my ZL400 for an XJ600 this weekend and Swinton Evil or Very Mad want to put my monthly payments up by £20. To cancel they want to charge me £140! I'm four months into my policy and as per usual I didn't predict the future.

Where do they get off charging this much? To the people who've had previous dealings with Swinton, is there any particular strategy to getting some off your premium? What happens if you default on your direct debit? I am skint after all Karma

Sadly there isn't a lot you can do about it.

There seem to be some companys that are cheap but cost a lot to alter you policy (MCE in my experience) and others that are more expensive buy cost less to change. (e-bike have been mentioned on here)

I know that's no use to you now but if you change bikes regularly its something you need to look into.

As far as your policy is concerned, they will have that £140 off you one way or another so you either up the monthly payments or keep with you old bike for another 8 months.

To clarify, they want to cancel the existing policy and sell a new one that's £20 per month more?
Or is it one or the other.
£20 more for the bigger/newer bike is to be expected.

If you're paying monthly the situation is compounded because effectively as a broker they loaned you the whole year's premium and you are repaying it to them.
It seems par for the course with most of them.

You could just wait till the 12 months is up.

As doggone said, you effectively took out a loan to get the insurance and if the close the policy you have to pay that loan back.

Seems pretty simple to me..

Until they get more complaints that go to the FCA. Then nothing will happen.

Do they? Or do they want you to pay back the entirety of what you borrowed from them, less any refund that they received from the underwriter?
